No Evidence Pentagon Knew of Atta, Panel Says

9/11 Probers Reject Claims on Lead Hijacker

Investigators for the Sept. 11 commission have found no evidence to support allegations by a House Republican that lead hijacker Mohamed Atta was identified by a classified Pentagon program before the 2001 attacks, according to a commission statement issued last night.

Commission leaders Thomas H. Kean (R) and Lee H. Hamilton (D) said in the joint statement that panel staff members have found no documents or other witnesses to back up claims made by a U.S. Navy officer, who told the commission staff in July 2004 that he recalled seeing Atta's name and photograph on a chart prepared by another officer. Panel officials also said they have found no evidence to support similar claims made to reporters by a second person, a former defense intelligence official.

"None of the documents turned over to the commission mention Mohamed Atta or any of the other future hijackers," the commission statement said. "Nor do any of the staff notes on documents reviewed in the [Defense Department] reading room indicate that Mohamed Atta or any of the other future hijackers were mentioned in any of those documents."

The statement marks the latest development in several days of public skirmishing between the commission and Rep. Curt Weldon (R-Pa.), who accused the panel of ignoring allegations that Atta and other hijackers had been identified by Pentagon analysts before the Sept. 11 attacks but that the information had not been shared with other agencies.

..."the commission staff concluded that the officer's account was not sufficiently reliable to warrant revision of the report or further investigation."

The Able Danger program is also not mentioned in the final report because "the operation itself did not turn out to be historically significant," the statement said.

verty true, this weekends talking head story is DNC sanctioned to be Sheehan.

Real news is NOT in the schedule.

Sheehan is irrelevant, she is just the warm up act choreographed for the Sept 24, 2005 "impeach bush" rally in DC.

Watch, she will be the star act.

She is a FRAUD, she does not deserve one IOTA of sympathy for ANYTHING.

Her son's death is a joy for her because his death gave her a beard to further push her looney ant-war-anti-america manure.

The ABLE DANGER story should be FRONT AND CENTER. NO "SOURCES SAY". Name the names, IDENTIFY THE STAFFERS.

Magically they "don't remember atta". The 9/11 commission could go to disney world and not remember seeing micky mouse.

IMO, red herring. This was an initiative of the CJCS. IIRC the JCS serves in primarily an advisory capacity to the president and has no downward command authority. Given that there is some question as to how much information would necessarily filter down and to what level.

We need to put the staff members and Gorelick before Congress under oath.

We would, of course, need to place a package of underwear in front of each one of them.

These traitors are lying through their teeth.

As I said before, the rejection of this one Naval officer's story - even though I have no reason to believe he wasn't telling the truth - does not change the substance of the Able Danger story. Let's not get misdirected by this one news story.

Rep. Curt Weldon said today on Fox News that there are 15 unexamined boxes of documents(!), and now 11 witnesses(!!), (NOT just 1), who are willing to testify under oath.

He also is calling for 9/11 Staffers to be questioned under oath re: their evident negligence, &/or close-mindedness, &/or cover-up behavior, and/or stonewalling.

Under little-known but established US Supreme Court-sanctioned precedent, Jamie Gorelick, as a former Federal bureaucrat, can & should be sued civilly for gross dereliction of duty, for contributory negligence and culpability in 3,000 deaths (& counting), and for gross negligence as the DOJ "Wall of Separation" memo author, which greatly & unconscionably expanded the "letter of the law" to, in effect, protect spies and terrorists.

This in turn may lead to other higher up Clinton Administration officials being revealed as complicit or culpable under discovery, deposition and courtroom testimony. Certainly the infamous Gorelick DOJ memo was consistent with the highly cautious and overly legalistic approach of the Clinton Administration (& The Clinton White House) toward National Security, espionage, and terrorism issues.

"Presidential Decision Directive 24" and the Gorelick memo prove that the Clinton administration took affirmative steps to thwart Defense and Intelligence counter-terrorism efforts.

Able Danger proved that Clinton's PDD and Gorelick's "wall" cleared the path for the attacks on September 11, 2001.

The 9/11 Commission of which Gorelick was a member covered up for the Clinton administration.

Awright, Rep. Weldon! I'm writing our congressional delegation to support him. Not counting on Ed Pastor, one of our local representatives from a largely Latino/Hispanic district. He's just kind of pathetic.

But go, Rep. Weldon.

Regardless, the smell of this bodes not well for the credibility of the 911 Commission.

I knew the fix was in when they first proposed Henry Kissinger to head the Commission. He nad to back out, but the fact they'd even consider putting him in charge was enough to convince me that the Commission was a coverup. The presence of Jamie Gorelick on the Commission instead of being forced to testify before it was another clue.
