FAYETTEVILLE, Georgia (AP) -- A teenage grandson of former President Jimmy Carter was sentenced Friday to 30 days of house arrest and 36 months probation as part of a plea agreement involving the theft of a videogame console.
Jeremy Carter, 18, of Peachtree City, Georgia, was arrested in December after being caught inside the home of a former friend. Police said they found less than an ounce of marijuana in his shoe and smelled alcohol on his breath.
The victim did not want Carter to go to jail, which District Attorney Scott Ballard said "considerably" affected the outcome of the case.
Carter's burglary charge was reduced and he pleaded guilty to theft by taking, a misdemeanor.

I would be willing to give Jimmuh the benefit of the doubt on this case. However, knowing what a hypocrite he is, and seeing how the story mentions that Jeff Carter is "Jimmy Carter's youngest son" (no mention of Ms Rosalyn...), I wouldn't put it past him.
Nah, Jimmuh was a boob as president alright, but he was squeaky clean. No midnight calls from the Oval Office to Ralph's Carpet Cleaners for him.
Well, inquiring minds want to know...Who the H is Jeff Carter?
He must have been a really bad dude for the press to bury him in 76.
CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN OF PRESIDENT AND MRS. CARTER
Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter have four children:
* John William "Jack", was born July 3, 1947 in Portsmouth, VA. His son, Jason James Carter, was born August 7, 1975, and daughter, Sarah Rosemary was born December 19, 1978. Jack is married to Elizabeth Brasfield of Chagrin Falls, Ohio. Her children are John and Sarah Chuldenko.
* James Earl "Chip", was born April 12, 1950 in Honolulu, Hawaii. His son, James Earl IV, was born February 25, 1977, and daughter, Margaret Alicia was born September 23, 1987. Chip is married to Becky Payne.
* Donnel Jeffrey "Jeff", was born August 18, 1952 in New London, CT. He married Annette Jene Davis of Arlington, GA. They have three children:
o Joshua Jeffrey (b. May 8, 1984)
o Jeremy Davis (b. June 25, 1987)
o James Carlton (b. April 24, 1991)
* Amy Lynn Carter was born October 19, 1967 in Plains, GA. She married James Gregory Wentzel of Herndon, VA. Their son, Hugo James Wentzel, was born July 29, 1999.
George Will tells Carter his "top secret" briefing book wasn't worth stealing.
This is the greatest news I've heard all week. Carter the Pure finally gives Will the opportunity and the game is over with the artful brevity of Sir George. I'll be chortling for days.
But, he lusted in his heart...
* James Earl "Chip", was born April 12, 1950 in Honolulu, Hawaii. His son, James Earl IV, was born February 25, 1977
What, Jimmuh waited for son #2 before passing on the "James Earl"?
Jeff was 24 (corrected)
Jimma Goober should have briefed Jeremy on what happens to thieves.
I guess he was to busy building houses for deadbeats.
Proud to say by the time it mattered I cast my 1st Presidential vote in '84 for Ronald Reagan. Hope you wised up by then!
I turned 30 in '84 and got my smarts and voted for Reagan, yes.
If it were a Bush relative, it would require a cover story in People Magazine & other publications and 24-7 mention on all the news shows, including of course O'Reilly.
Like your pictures of Ginger and Gilligan. I have cats and love them but also have a huge soft spot for dogs. Maybe one day . . .
(in my best Bill Murray voice) Poor kid, his mom named him after a hurricane!
I can see it now..."Tonight on CNNCBSABCNBCMSNBCNPR, Day 17 of the Bush second-cousin-twice-removed jaywalking crisis..."
I use it to illustrate that people can and do change.
My parents were pretty much apolitical and I learned my politics at a very liberal high school. Then I worked for a small business owner in the early 80's and he taught me a lot.
Funny how our political views develop. I cannot remember ever discussing politics with my parents growing up. When I was in college two hours away from home in '84 I drove back just to vote for Ronald Reagan. While standing in line with my parents I found out that they too were voting for Reagan and had been voting Republican since Goldwater. Guess I absorbed it non verbally. We agree politically to this day.
Golden Retrievers and cats make a wonderful team. I don't have any cats now, but I used to and they all got along very well.
