One Hit Wonders (Voter Thread) |
Welcome To The Canteen Music Dedication!! In our continued effort to bring music themes that you want, we continue this week with our Canteen voted thread of One Hit Wonders! This list was compiled from various sources. Some of you may disagree with an artist showing up in our One Hit Wonders list, but that's okay. We're not here to state that we are the authority on such matters. We're here to enjoy some music from popular artist (although, not popular for long) of their respective music eras. There are many artists/songs that are considered One Hit Wonders. However, we don't have all day and night to list them. We've gotta sleep now and again! Hehehe! We enjoy feedback. If you have requests, please ping laurenmarlowe on the thread or via FReepmail. As always, we greatly appreciate the opportunity to entertain our Troops, Veterans, and their family members. Enjoy!

Just Damn! Are you finished Mojo? Lol - you did good. Now that I've cropped my list of duplicate One Hit Wonders, I'm left with ... uh .... uh .... oh, here's one you missed (I hope):
The Little Black Egg
~ The Nightcrawlers ~
The Nightcrawlers were formed in Daytona Beach, FL, in the mid-'60s and along with the Birdwatchers and We the People, were one of the most regionally popular Florida rock groups of that era. They had a small hit, "The Little Black Egg," in the 1967 that's remembered for its cutesy folk-rock-cum-garage sound and its enigmatic lyrics. Although it only reached number 85 on the national charts, it made more of an impact than that low placing might reflect, since it was a regional hit in various parts of the country after it was recorded in 1965. Due to poor distribution it only made the national charts upon its third issue. The Nightcrawlers did a few more singles with their original lineup, which disbanded in mid-1966 with enough material for one LP on Kapp Records.
Principal songwriter Charlie Conlon did a couple of singles as leader of a different band called Conlon and the Nightcrawlers. Conlon's original material showed a Byrds/Beau Brummels influence in the folky guitar riffs, minor melodies, and introspective lyrics, but weren't nearly as skilled or developed as those groups were. Conlon left the band in spring 1966 and the Nightcrawlers broke up a few months later, although two of the members formed a different lineup of the Nightcrawlers that did one more single for Kapp, "My Butterfly." That 45 was Who-lite, not very similar to the old garage-folk-rock Nightcrawlers and in spite of that, was their best song other than "The Little Black Egg." They never recorded after 1967, but different lineups with the Nightcrawlers name continued to perform until 1970 on the strength of "Little Black Egg" ...
