One Hit Wonders (Voter Thread) |
Welcome To The Canteen Music Dedication!! In our continued effort to bring music themes that you want, we continue this week with our Canteen voted thread of One Hit Wonders! This list was compiled from various sources. Some of you may disagree with an artist showing up in our One Hit Wonders list, but that's okay. We're not here to state that we are the authority on such matters. We're here to enjoy some music from popular artist (although, not popular for long) of their respective music eras. There are many artists/songs that are considered One Hit Wonders. However, we don't have all day and night to list them. We've gotta sleep now and again! Hehehe! We enjoy feedback. If you have requests, please ping laurenmarlowe on the thread or via FReepmail. As always, we greatly appreciate the opportunity to entertain our Troops, Veterans, and their family members. Enjoy!

Fire
~ The Crazy World of Arthur Brown ~
One of the most electrifying one-shot artists of the '60s, British singer Arthur Brown briefly set the charts alight in 1968, as well as thrilling audiences with his theatrical performances, which saw him wearing helmets of fire and outlandish costumes before it became status que for groups like Alice Cooper. His debut album was one of the most left-field commercial successes of the '60s, if not of all rock history. In addition to topping the British charts (and reaching number two in the U.S.) with his demonic single "Fire," the self-proclaimed "god of hellfire" also scored a Top Ten LP with the 1968 debut. It showcased his band's manic, agitated psychedelic sound, which was anchored by the incendiary drumming of a very young Carl Palmer. The Who's Kit Lambert produced the heavily orchestrated (by Vincent Crane) masterpiece with Pete Townshend doing "co- production", and an organist who's been described as "Jimmy Smith on acid" and a prototype of Keith Emerson of Emerson, Lake & Palmer.
Brown's original "Crazy World" band broke up in early 1969, but, in the early '70s he released several albums with "Kingdom Come", which saw him pursuing a maddeningly obscure and less exciting brand of art rock giving Captain Beefheart a run for his atonal money. He recorded off and on after, with a final additional flash of fame springing from his role as a priest in the film version of "Tommy".

They had a great song called "When the Lady Smiles" that would have kept them off the One-Hit list (if the video hadn't been so controversial).
Tonight I'm On the Loose - Saga
Stone Cold - Rainbow
Two more songs that are jumping out at me.

That was a nice story.
Most folks who make it in show business couldn't be bothered with helping anybody else out.

Come On Down To My Boat
~ Every Mother's Sun ~
While the Beatles spawned a league of imitators, it's no surprise that the Beatles' most successful clone, the Monkees, inspired a doppelganger of its own. Formed in 1967 in New York City, NY, Every Mother's Son attempted to Xerox the Monkees' innocuous bubblegum pop. Consisting of brothers Dennis Larden (vocals, guitar) and Larry Larden (guitar, vocals), Schuyler Larsen (bass), Bruce Milner (keyboards), and Christopher Augustine (drums), Every Mother's Son was signed to MGM and released their debut LP in 1967. The catchy "Come on Down to My Boat", spiced with images of bondage and obscure sexuality was a Top Ten hit in the U.S., but the group wasn't able recapture its success and folded in 1969. Dennis Larden later joined Rick Nelson's Stone Canyon Band.
