Television talk show star Ellen DeGeneres has been picked to host the upcoming Primetime Emmy Awards, U.S. TV's top honors, reprising her widely praised performance in 2001 following the September 11 attacks.
"You know me, any excuse to put on a dress," DeGeneres joked in a statement from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, which puts on the show.
The Emmys are held each year in September and honor the best in U.S. TV programs and performances as well as kick off a new season of shows headed for the airwaves.
TV stars attend in glamorous gowns and tuxedos, dripping in diamonds and other fine jewelry. DeGeneres prefers pants.
In 2001, the telecast was delayed twice before finally airing in early November. DeGeneres walked a fine line between comedy and seriousness throughout the program, which featured displays of patriotism such as a rendition of "America the Beautiful" mixed with DeGeneres' making jokes.
Her deft performance earned DeGeneres a standing ovation when the Emmys ended that night.
The 57th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards are scheduled to take place on September 18, and will air on the CBS television network.
CBS is a unit of Viacom Inc..
Another good reason not to watch.......not that I need a reason mind you........
They could not find a women to host ?
Bush League...
Really? It should be interesting seeing her munching....errr....walking the red carpet in a dress.
Is there any doubt left that all network awards shows are for the "gay"s.
No Chris Rock...?
Never thought she was funny. She's one of these stars that people are always trying to find work.
I think Ellen is funny. At least she doesn't push her politics in her stand-up.
Almost all network shows are for (or by) homosexuals. I don't watch TV much but when I do seems there is always a reference to gay this or that. They want us all to believe it is perfectly normal and healthy. I will NEVER believe that!
RALPH...EARL...BUICK!
I think she's funny, and personable. I'd love to throw a few back with her and ogle the rest of the chicks at the bar.
You forgot ...ALFALFA!
I thought her show was very funny UNTIL it became the Ellen Lesbian show. If she had stuck with the original instead of pulling her lifestyle into it, I think it would have lasted.
She's got good stand-up chops, but her material is really weak. Very narrow and trite. Used to be much better before she tattooed "LESBIAN" on her forehead.
She's also been good to the troops and their families. She's OK in my book.
I do agree with that. It was good, but then became all about her sexual orientation. Too bad, it killed a good show.
However, I think it is because she had JUST come out.
Why does anyone even care about these celebrity circle-jerk parties anymore? I mean, we're bombarded with celebrity "news" by the press - constantly. Personally, I'm sick of hearing about them.
I don't care who Tom Cruise is messing with, whether Brad wants Angelina or Jennifer, or which crappy director is getting what award for another formulaic piece of big budget trash.
IMHO, HOLLYWOOD MUST BE DESTROYED!
