Today National President Chuck Canterbury announced the strong support of the Fraternal Order of Police for the nomination of Judge John G. Roberts, Jr. to be the next associate justice of the Supreme Court.
In a letter to Chairman Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) and Ranking Member Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Canterbury referred to Roberts' distinguished career as both a public servant and a practicing attorney.
"John Roberts has demonstrated that he will be an outstanding addition to the Supreme Court," Canterbury wrote, "and that he has rightfully earned his place beside the finest legal minds in the nation."
Confirmation hearings are expected to begin on Sept. 6, and Canterbury urged the Judiciary Committee to expeditiously approve the nomination of Judge Roberts and send it to the full Senate for consideration.
The Fraternal Order of Police is the nation's largest law enforcement labor organization, with more than 321,000 members.
Any bets on what the IUPA (AFL-CIO) is saying or will say about Roberts?
