So, when more minorities move to a majority white area, this is evidence of "diversity", but when whites to move to a majority "minority" area, that isn't evidence of anything more than white people moving to where they aren't welcome? Is that what this writer is trying to convey?
diverse = not white
It's good when minorities move in previously overwhelming white area, that is evidence of diversity but when whites move in to gentrify neighborhoods that were previously crime-ridden, it is "bad" because women and minorities are most affected and cannot "afford" to live in the area anymore. That is the viewpoint of WashPost.

I am sick of these racial bean counters. If someone like Hitler ever rose to power in this country, it would be so simple for him to enact genocidal programs against one race/ethnic group, because the statists have been so fastidious about documenting everyone's race. Virtually every government form now has a checkoff box for race.

Haha. Odd enough, the District is becoming a safer place to live. All the crime is being pushed out to Prince George's County, Maryland.
Not surprising. DC's blacks keep moving out to Prince George's County, MD to escape the city's high crime rate and rotting schools, while white singles (especially gays), who don't care about the state of public schools, move into increasingly gentrified DC neighborhoods.
That's right. Look at what happened to Dupont Circle.

The percentage of the DC population composed of blacks has been decreasing for decades, and if I'm not mistaken it actually peaked in the 1960 Census.
I always check "native american" since I was born here. :-)
Actually, the black percentage of the population increased in 1968 and for several decades afterwards because of riots after MLK was killed.
