NEW YORK - New York City wants restaurants to narrow their list of ingredients and maybe some waistlines by cutting out trans fats.
The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene said the voluntary change could also help fight the citys biggest killer, heart disease.
To comply, chefs would have to dump many margarines and frying oils, and possibly reworking long-held recipes for baked goods.

Awesome. The fat people took a nap while the smokers were getting fleeced. Now it's their turn. A quick search of FR's archive will surely dig up countless posts predicting this. The nanny state has chewed up smokers and spit them out. On to the next!

The future of New York restaurants.
Madness. Why not just make the move to gruel all at once.

So if you have a dirty mind, the Department of Mental Hygiene will forcibly clean it for you? ;)
Unfortunately, I think a lot of posters here would endorse government intervention in such cases.

While I am against government intervention in things like this, I wouldn't mind seeing a "voluntary ban" (oxymoron). Trans-fats are nasty things, completely unnatural.

I think it is legal already to open a trans-fat-free restauraunt, advertise it as such, and put all the other restaurants in NY out of business.
Why do we need a law?

No kidding. Chilling, isn't it?

Of all tyrannies a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive.

Trans-fats are nasty things, completely unnatural. Health-wise, you're better off cooking with lard than with trans-fats. That says a lot.
