Absolutely. The California rancherias that are home to the tribes here were absolute horror stories. Extremely below poverty living conditions, rampant drug abuse.. A lot of those same reservations now have new homes, new cars, and at little government cost - they opened casinos. But really, any economic development would work.

Comes back to the same thing - give a man a fish, he'll be hungry tomorrow. Teach a man to fish, he'll never be hungry again. The nanny state is always going to be a failure, no matter how good the intention. You remove any need or urge to succeed as failure has the same benefits.

I know GWB says he doesn't read the papers, but I sure hope he reads every word Mark Steyn writes and governs himself accordingly. In analysis and advice, Mark is the antithesis of that fatuous cretin, Thomas "Clueless Dhimmi" Friedman.

What Steyn so eloquently shows is that the terrorists are not poor unwashed masses, but that the most successful terrorists are rich, western trained Sand-Nazis.
So the question remains, why do we train them in our universitys?

My first instinct would be that one was trying to save the other or save Jews. That explanation wouldn't be favored by either side. I guess the other explanation sounds possible though.

It would have been my instinct too, until I lived over here for five years and discovered that Muslims really hate that much. They glorify mass murders in a way that puts to shame footballers in the states. Nobody plasters posters of football players on every street corner, but Muslims plaster posters of suicide bombers.

They actually did dance in the streets on 911, and get in my face and laugh because I was an American.

Yes, they truely are insane, and would fight over a suicide vest.

I've read that the biggest opponents of bilingual education in CA before it was rolled back were immigrants from Latin America, who desperately wanted their children to learn English. The most troublesome foe is the one closest to home.

Here in Colorado we tried to roll back bilingual education with tremendous support from Hispanic immigrants. They knew full well that their children's inability to speak English was relegating them to menial jobs. The ballot issue was way ahead when Pat Stryker, a billionaire leftist in Ft. Collins decided to get involved. She threw enough $$ at it that it failed in the end. A rich, white woman who did nothing to earn the money she has, doomed those immigrant children to lives of poverty. Nice...
