Boxer demands Roberts support abortion, privacy
AP ^ | 8-10-05 | DAVID KRAVETS

Sen. Barbara Boxer said Wednesday she would vote against John Roberts' nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court, if she remains convinced he doesn't support abortion and privacy rights.

"I need to know exactly where he stands and I need to know whether he would fight to protect the rights and freedoms of the American people," said Boxer, D-Calif. "If I don't believe he will, I won't vote for him."

Boxer said she was withholding judgment on whether she would vote for President Bush's pick to succeed Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, who often provided the decisive swing vote in decisions that spit the court's liberal and conservative wings.

"Imagine what is riding on this one Supreme Court vacancy," Boxer told an audience of about 200 at Golden Gate School of Law. "This one vote means so much to countless women."

Boxer fears a more conservative court could lead "to the days of back alley illegal abortions."

"We cannot go back to those dark days," she said. "Judge Roberts cannot duck this issue."

Roberts has been on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit since June 2003. He was associate counsel to President Reagan from 1982-86 and then served in the first Bush administration, arguing cases before the Supreme Court from 1989-93.

Boxer said filibustering Roberts is an option.

"I have the ultimate step. I can withhold my approval. I can use all the parliamentary rules I have as a senator to stand up and fight for you," she said.

Included in her criteria for supporting Roberts is his taking a strong stand on the right to privacy, which Roberts called a "so-called" right while working as a government attorney.

"Obsessed is right. I can just see Boxter phoning ahead to NARAL rally organizers to ask about their signage color scheme before picking her outfit that day.

Everyone is pro-choice. We choose life and they choose death

It always galls me when some politician or "femnist" talks about a woman's right to choose. They can never bring themselves to finish that sentence. It tells me all I need to know.

Barbara Boxer spelled out what's important to liberals: make sure abortion remains untouchable. That's the reason they oppose Roberts. Anything else is tolerable but mess around with their sacrament - that's off limits. The Democrats live in a time warp. For them is like Roe never happened. Most Americans want reasonable restrictions on abortion. The Democrats think one teeny weeny modest restriction means dooming women to second-class status in America. That's how these people think and Boxer is going to vote against Roberts because he's not going to say abortion now, abortion tomorrow and abortion forever sits well with him.

What about my right of privacy when it comes to all these people who want private freedoms and private responsibility spending millions in my state tax money for abortions? Who's fighting for that? If it's private...pay the bill, don't ask us to pay for your lack of self-control. Between that and the ACLU getting gov't money....

Whatever happened to "First do no harm"? How can you study to be a doctor and heal for all those years and end up doing this? It's evil.

I always ask choose what?

If you ask them how many have abortions due to (as Roe states), rape incest and health of the mother...you may, if you wiggle the figures get 2%. They classify possible stress of this little person infringing on my shopping, dating, head-to-toe spa, traveling as a mental illness.

If I were Roberts...even if I never thought of overturning it, I would as soon as I got in (especially attacking his adopted kids).

I couldn't go and counter because my young daughter had just had an operation. All my friends called and it was horrific. Most of the people marching probably were Gays and Lesbians (? beats me), old liberal women (who are too old to have kids anyway), liberal anti-catholic, catholic sisters (like why would they care). There was a lot of spitting , cursing and grabbing of crotch towards them...in front of the pro-lifers kids.

Oh, their doing away with that rule. The new rule is "I will not be extremist and think a fetus is a baby. I will however revere it as a commodity for stem cell research.

Medical Student Being Failed at University of Manitoba for Not Providing Abortion Option

WINNIPEG, March 18, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A medical student in his last year at the University of Manitoba Medical School will be denied his degree for his unwillingness to partake in any abortion-related activity. The Christian student, who wishes to remain unnamed, received a failing grade in an Obstetrics and Gynecology portion of his program for refusing to perform or refer for any abortive procedure. Three separate appeals to the Medical School have all failed to correct the matter.

All my friends called and it was horrific

FReeper Polycarp IV was there and confirmed these things in a previous post:

" We stood with a priest holding a 3 1/2 foot crucifix, peacefully praying the Rosary. I witnessed pro-abortion marchers spitting at our priest, making vulgar gestures at us, blocking our signs with theirs, yelling insults and screaming obscenities at us, and public homosexual groping and kissing and women removing their tops with "pasties" of pro-abort stickers."

Your friends were right about the demographics there. CINOs, apostate nuns, dykes and old ladies. The saddest thing is the children covered in signs and stickers.
