Sen. Barbara Boxer said Wednesday she would vote against John Roberts' nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court, if she remains convinced he doesn't support abortion and privacy rights.
"I need to know exactly where he stands and I need to know whether he would fight to protect the rights and freedoms of the American people," said Boxer, D-Calif. "If I don't believe he will, I won't vote for him."
Boxer said she was withholding judgment on whether she would vote for President Bush's pick to succeed Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, who often provided the decisive swing vote in decisions that spit the court's liberal and conservative wings.
"Imagine what is riding on this one Supreme Court vacancy," Boxer told an audience of about 200 at Golden Gate School of Law. "This one vote means so much to countless women."
Boxer fears a more conservative court could lead "to the days of back alley illegal abortions."
"We cannot go back to those dark days," she said. "Judge Roberts cannot duck this issue."
Roberts has been on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit since June 2003. He was associate counsel to President Reagan from 1982-86 and then served in the first Bush administration, arguing cases before the Supreme Court from 1989-93.
Boxer said filibustering Roberts is an option.
"I have the ultimate step. I can withhold my approval. I can use all the parliamentary rules I have as a senator to stand up and fight for you," she said.
Included in her criteria for supporting Roberts is his taking a strong stand on the right to privacy, which Roberts called a "so-called" right while working as a government attorney.

Barbara Boxer is going to oppose a Bush judicial nominee? Get out of here! No way! Next you will tell me bears are sh##ting in the woods!
Pray for W and Our Freedom Fighters
At this rate, eventually there won't be a next election for them.
Tell me about it! Hey Barbie, {hint hint} Your party is in the MINORITY, you don't get to make the rules.
She is ....dirty.
Damn straight, Babs! Make him commit to upholding the right of the PEOPLE to keep and bear arms, and...
Oh, I forgot. She means made-up rights, not the ones guaranteed by the Constitution's framers. My bad.
How else are they going to be able to keep abortion going? If not for that great democratic legislative branch known as the Supreme Court, abortion would not be legal.
The only faint whiff of news is in the original story:
"Boxer said filibustering Roberts is an option."
So they're going to filibuster. The next question is whether enough of the red state Dem senators, like Nelson, Landrieu, etc. will break party discipline and vote for cloture. I would say it is 50-50 whether enough Dems will break party line to overcome RINO's like Chafee and the weak sisters from Maine, who will probably vote with Boxer.
Should be an interesting fall. Certainly better than the rest of the garbage on the TV lineup.
Senator Boxer is obviously afraid that she might become pregnant. That fear is fueled by her delusional belief that there might still be one male out there willing to have sex with her.
May I suggest a Google search on "child sacrifice" and Molech?
The liberal wing of the demoncrats is a one-issue party - the right to kill babies.
What a misleading headline. Demand? Shouldn't this become a separation of powers issue?
Boxer is going to vote against him. Not really news.
Legalized bortion is the pillar and foundation of feminism, and when it falls feminism will begin to fall with it, and they know it. When abortion becomes illegal again most mothers will be forced to take their children to term, and then RAISE it. Seeing the child, holding it, nurturing it and loving it will make almost any woman put the baby before her personal interests.
Along with this little child things like responsibility and dedication to motherhood and family life enter the scene again, as God intended, and hence feminism begins to be replaced by a more natural way of life.
"She is ....dirty."
Yes, and more: she is stupid, deceitful, and a democrat, but I repeat myself. I just sent her an e-mail asking that she please STFU and quit embarassing Californians.
"If he doesn't SWEAR by the "right" to rip babies limb from limb out of their mama's wombs.......I can't POSSIBLY support 'im!!!!!!!"
My God in Heaven, what a blood-drenched bitch.
