Subject: Re: Fw: Nightline Tonight Mon., March 14, 2005

That was my son's unit. He was killed on that day 04/04/04. Here is a letter that I wrote to NightLine about the broadcast:
  Love

  Cindy Sheehan

  March 15, 2005

  To Whom it May Concern:

Imagine my distress when I turned Night Line on last night and I was confronted with the gory details of my son's murder in Sadr City, Baghdad, Iraq on 04/04/04. Imagine, also, my sorrow and rage at the side of the story that you presented to the American public.

[SNIP]

I was on the Night Line Townhall Meeting in Washington, DC on 01/27/05. After I spoke (which I think was a fluke), Ted Koppel dismissed me as being "emotional." First of all, how can I approach this discussion without emotions, MY SON WAS KILLED, AND KILLED FOR LIES? Second of all, that show was not fair and balanced and I think the conclusion "Should we stay" was foregone.

The show last night was also not fair and balanced. To see all the wives being interviewed who had not lost their husbands and to hear what "hard work" it is to be left behind when their husbands are at war. How hard to you think it is to have a child killed in an illegal and immoral war? In this "wonderful" group of families left behind, we had exactly ONE of the wives call us..she is Diane Rose who was my son's Colonel, Frank Rose's wife. The last time we heard from Diane was in October and we feel we have been left behind by anyone connected to the 2-5 Cavalry. Is support only given if your loved one stays alive? One wife was quoted as saying that Sundays were the hardest for the families left behind. My son was killed on Palm Sunday last year..how does anybody think Sundays are for my family?

Am I emotional? Yes, my first born was murdered. Am I angry? Yes, he was killed for lies and for a PNAC Neo-Con agenda to benefit Israel. My son joined the Army to protect America, not Israel. Am I stupid? No, I know full-well that my son, my family, this nation, and this world were betrayed by a George Bush who was influenced by the neo-con PNAC agenda after 9/11. We were told that we were attacked on 9/11 because the terrorists hate our freedoms and democracy...not for the real reason, becuase the Arab-Muslims who attacked us hate our middle-eastern foreign policy. That hasn't changed since America invaded and occupied Iraq...in fact it has gotten worse.

It would be so amazing if your show would put me, or another parent who lost their child on who disagrees with the war and this administration: to have just an entire show..without presenting the false side of the debate. That would take a lot of courage and integrity. I hope your program will exhibit these qualities.

I also think that Mr. Koppel owes me an apology for the rude way I was treated on his show. After I expressed myself about the war being based on lies and that the troops should be brought home immediately because the war was based on lies, I was not thanked for my comments, or my son's sacrifice. He just said to keep the discussion away from emotions. Then, the wife of a soldier who was killed was allowed to speak and she praised the policies of this deplorable and despicable administration, and she was thanked and praised by the panel.

Cindy Sheehan believes we are fighting a nuclear war in Iraq. Right now. This very second.

"We are waging a nuclear war in Iraq right now. That country is contaminated. It will be contaminated for practically eternity now."

Cindy Sheehan is insane.

I disagree. Read my earlier posts to Iconoclast in this thread as to why. Since I am too lazy to respost them

You're free to disagree with Cindy, and she with you regarding your personal feelings on the matter.

As for America's official involvement in the mideast, any such involvement should be for America's beneifit first and foremost--now and forever.

Unfortunately, America has already gotten itself all mixed-up in Mideast affairs, and so may not just be able to walk away from the goings on there.

But whatever course America charts, should always try to favor a move toward disentangling herself from the insanity of the Mideast.

"I'd like to see the quote, in its context, myself before I take anyone's word for it."

I realize that you are probably a troll. But let me re-post this for you--which has already been posted on this thread a dozen times:

"You get America out of Iraq and Israel out of Palestine and you'll stop the terrorism," she exclaimed."

What is truly sick is that she is pimping her son for her agenda. Her son died doing what he volunteered to do. He died while selflessly working for a better Iraq, and, as part of the larger war against terrorism, for a better world. Moreover, she is using his sacrifce to dodge taxes. I think that I shall vomit.

iconoclast is closet liberal.

so logic and reality are far from reach.

iconclast is a clues punk.

I have relatives in Iraq right now.

Statements by commies like Sheehan and others.....only help encourage the enemy.

Vietnam showed us that.

History is wasted on iconoclast.

How wise of you.

Who needs oil? Who cares if a bunch of maniacs get nuclear weapons or want to destroy Western Civilization by any means possible?

Who cares if they wipe out whole nations of people?

You're right. We should BUG OUT ASAP. That would be great for us and the world.

Sheesh. What an infantile outlook.

Exactly, and she accuses GW of going to war for oil, when she's doing to her son what she said GW is doing to Iraq.

Refusing to pay attention to the fact that the Bush administration supports a second Palestinian Arab state and is forcing this on Israel makes one suspect

I do believe America got involved with Israel as a cold war thing.

And I do believe America got itself involved with the Arabs as an oil thing.

And so now America is caught between the two.

The mideast reminds me of Caroline Lamb's view of Byron,

"Mad, bad, and dangerous to know."

It's a place we should have steered clear of from the beginning.

Also, her blatant lying adds insult to injury. The woman has proven herself to be a brazen media whore. Prayers for her son's soul and prayers that this woman will realise that her actions dishonour her son and all other who have been serving in Iraq and elsewhere in the global war on terrorism.

Well Well Well!!!

Another liar has been exposed. Great work!

BTW her last comment about allowing Saddam to fly those Helicopters so he could "Gas" the Kurds was all I needed to hear to show me she was an idiot. Those Helicopters were used to put down the Shiites, the Kurds were "Gassed" a decade earlier

It's worse than that. Her words and actions are placing other soldiers and Marines at increased risk of being killed by terrorists who are comforted and encouraged by what she is saying and doing.

Looks to me like you are a paleocon, which is cool by me. But I think one of the greatest doctrinal mistakes paleocons make is their extreme isolationism, and their short term reasoning for this. And ultimately, after their position in WWII, it came down in the Republican party to Eisenhower vs. Taft. Eisenhower won, because he offered a concrete plan to deal with the threat, rather than sit here with our heads in the sand.

Make no mistake, Israel, Iraq, Iran and even Afghanistan aside, the Islamists would have come for us. Then, what would you have done? Gone Jacksonian on them? Somehow I doubt it. Staying out of the mid-east completely is not a plan. Nor is supporting the gator, in the hopes of the gator eating you last. You don't like Israel? Fine. Or, more accurately as I suspect, you don't like the sacrifices America makes for Israel? Fine.

But, if you are a sovereigntist, don't you want to keep your enemy away from you as far as you can? Supporting Israel keeps them busy.

"Prayers for her son's soul and prayers that this woman will realise that her actions dishonour her son and all other who have been serving in Iraq and elsewhere in the global war on terrorism."

How is she dishonoring her son when, in fact, she's defending him and his service?

If you ask me, she's a great Mom and his son would be very proud of her were he alive. But, that's the tragedy of war: once you're dead, you're silenced and cannot express yourself on how you feel about the war.

Up is down; down is up. Right is wrong; wrong is right, and all of that

Thanks for the quote.

And now that I see it in context, I see that she is WRONG to make it our business to get Israel out of Palestine. Should be none of our affair either way.

(Unless we put Israel there, and it can be shown that was a wrong thing to do--in which case it's a we-broke-it,-we-fix-it thing.)

But she MAY be RIGHT to say that Israel out of Palistine may end terrorism against Israel over that affair--but that's another debate.

However, it should be none of our affair either way, unless, as I said, if we "broke it."

She may be starting to wake up to what is really going on in the world--and I suspect from that quote she's gotten herself under the influence of lefties who are exploiting her.

If she continues to question, she may eventually figure things out more correctly.

But as I said, Israel is both a canary and a distraction for our common enemies.

Iraq was not fought for Israel. In fact, Iraq hurts Israel as much as it helps it, if not more. Any long term strategist can see that. Who is gonna get blamed for Iraq? Israel. Who is the easiest and closest target for retaliation? Israel. Whose citizens can be attacked in reprisal with less world outrage? Israel.

The Iraq war will be used against Israel for a long time to come. Hell, the Muslims are still blaming 9/11 on the Mossad.

Sgt. Sheehan is a hero, and joined the Army to protect America, not Israel. He fought well, for America, not Israel. And he died for America, not Israel. Israel is just a red herring and a favourite whipping boy. It does a lot of nasty, unpleasant and detestable things. But that doesn't change the fact that it gets blamed for a lot more than it's responsible for.
