Bomb cache found in Iraq believed to be from Iranian Revolutionary Guard: official
AFP via Iran Focus ^ | 2005 Aug 9

WASHINGTON - US intelligence believes that a cache of manufactured bombs seized in Iraq about two weeks ago was smuggled into the country from Iran by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, an intelligence official said Tuesday.

"We believe they came from Iran's Revolutionary Guards," the official told AFP, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The find is significant not only because of the Iranian connection but also because it indicates manufactured bombs are now being introduced in a conflict that has seen the use of mainly improvised explosive devices.

Plus-Iran is much smaller than Iraq...

Did I miss something?

Like someone else said earlier...this would be a lot tougher than Iraq.

I'm sorry you are living in a dream world, if there is one way to make the islamo-fascist rally together it would be to send some of our boys and girls their to become targets. If you want the air force to drop some munitions on them, fine. Personally, I've seen to many of our sons and daughters come back in body bags for some ungrateful ragheads.

Plus-Iran is much smaller than Iraq...we have people prepositioned, and we'll be able to take a more "gloves off" approach to those jokers...

Actually, Iran is significantly larger than Iraq (1.648 million sq km vs. 437,072 sq km), has more harsh terrain (quite mountainous), and more people (68,017,860 (July 2005 est.) vs. 26,074,906 (July 2005 est.)). This would not be a cakewalk at all. A conflict with Iran would be a large-scale, long-term operation and should not be taken lightly.

Also bear in mind that a simple air-strike could escalate very quickly into a ground war, as Iran is right next door to where our troops are stationed. Action cannot be taken without the willingness for an epic battle. The American people are war-weary already over Iraq, which would seeem like a police action compared to taking on the mullahs. The President and the military brass understand this, which is why they're proceeding carefully (and the Iranians understand it too, which gives them bravado they would not otherwise have).

"...this would be a lot tougher than Iraq."

The Iranians hate their government more than the Iraqis did Sadaam. You take out their military and the Iranian government has nothing to secure its ruling position. The result is revolution.

"What is the administration waiting for - it's time to get rough with Iran!"

Not saying we should not retaliate. I do think the administration is concerned that a retaliation against Shiite Iran, would further destabilize the situation in the Shiite portions of Iraq, i.e. it will make matters worse in Iraq.

I'm sorry but it's not going to work that way. Regardless of their hate for their government. I assure you, hatred of the "Great American Satan" far outweighs their hatred for their own government. If you want to fight an Iran united in opposition to the US just start sending our troops in.

sorry, should have clarified...didnt mean geography...meant people...

It's like saying...Wyoming is much smaller then New York...it is, but it isn't...follow me.

Granted...if your a Sun Tzu fain, or any military buff, know the terrain, know the terrain, know the terrain...is a mantra...but population desnity, men of able fighting age...is a big concern.

also, didnt mean to imply it would be a cake walk...no war ever is...but despite some geography incumberences...logistically...it will be a better fight. IMHO.

I agree, but it's interesting how much I still hate them and want to pay them back for the hostages after 28 years. Especially with that new terrorist hostage-taking goober in charge.

For the rest of the media to follow Peter Jennings! Are you kidding? We can never go to war against another country! Not enough support for this war as is. Only option now is overwealming nuclear strikes. Nuke their nuke plant and send the word !

Proving that Iran is supporting the insurgents in Iraq gives us cover to "fix" the problem we're really worried about--taking out Iran's nuclear program.
