The real Roberts? (His pro-bono work speaks for itself; he's pro- gay rights)
Washington Post ^ | Aug 9 05 | Richard Cohen

[Regarding Roberts' pro bono help to a gay rights lawsuit] Focus on the Family ...portrayed Roberts as a mindless puppet of his law firm. "That's what lawyers do -- represent their firm's clients, whether they agree with what those clients stand for or not," it said in a statement. Of course, that's not the case at all. "Anyone who didn't want to work on a case for whatever matter, they didn't have to," said Walter A. Smith Jr., the Hogan & Hartson partner who ran the pro bono program. Oh.

...But more likely his pro bono work speaks for itself. Until he says otherwise, on gay rights, he's out of the closet.

What rights?

Conservatives will be very pleased with Roberts years from now.

Ted Olson thinks Roberts is conservative. Mark Levin thinks Roberts is conservative.

But freeper churchillbuff thinks he knows better. You, who have never supported the Bush administration, will do everything you can to undermine anyone the president nominates.

You know this is exactly what the left-wing legacy media wanted don't you? Create an impression of Roberts that would turn the conservatives against him because they knew it would be the only way to defeat him...

Yeah the same as they're happy with Reagan's Sandy O'Conner right? This guy has worked hard so that gays could enjoy their 'protected status' in Colorado. it's despicable.

The spectacle of conservative groups and the White House rushing to assure their constituencies that Roberts is not -- really and truly -- a tolerant man is both repulsive and absurd.

They are not.

"Richard Cohen needs to get away from the bottle."

You don't need to be inebriated to wonder why Roberts gave help to a radical gay-"rights" lawsuit that ended up messing with the Constitution.

Peach, research who all thought Souter was conservative when he was nominated.

Create an impression of Roberts that would turn the conservatives against him"""

Hey, I didn't force Roberts to give help to a radical gay-rights lawsuit.

If it's a sin to criticize a nominee because a Republican nominated him, I hope I won't see you criticizing Souter, Kennedy, O'Connor, Stevens, Brennan or Earl Warren.

According to the firm he worked for, which required a minimum of 20 hours a year "pro-bono", and the staff lawyers did not get to pick the cases for the "freebie" work.

You're playing into the left-wing legacy media's hands. I hope you understand that - you're a tool of the left.

research who all thought Souter was conservative when he was nominated."""

That was before Freerepublic, but I'll confess that I thought Souter sounded great at the time. I was wrong -- and that's why I'm suspicious of Roberts, whose paper trail is as thin as Souter's, and who has done some things -- like helping this radical Romer lawsuit -- that are just plain wrong.
