That's a FANTASTIC piece. A little long, but otherwise very good.

Society has endorsed the notion that for a period from early teens to late 20s or 30s it's natural to be a slut for both sexes, and based on that rationale contraception is a must, however for any who beleive in fact that it is sacriligious to have wanton promiscuous sex, the notion of needing protection is ridiculous.

Society pushes teens and adults to have sex. It's sick.

Despite being a skeptic on all issues theological, I must say that their are three things that stand out that would make me think that God exists: Wine, olive oil, and sex.

So, for instance, rape seems natural, even urgent, to some poor sinners. To others, natural is the pleasure of seduction. For some men, mating with a man seems natural. Still others seek sexual gratification with children. Or animals. Or, lower still, with plastic sex toys and video images.

Do you really think it is "lower" to use pornography than it is to seek sex from children or animals?

I've always thought that humans are most similar to wolves when it comes to sex, not other primates. We obviously are designed to be monogamous, but when what we view as a superior mate comes along are instinct tells us to go for it, much like wolf pairs (alpha, beta, omega, etc.) This is when we have to use our ability to reason.

Relative to feedback:

After reading this article, what I come away with is the fact that the culture has changed dramatically in six decades.

What I remember from my college years is all the cold showers I took after my Saturday night dates. And, BTW, at Miami, Ohio, we were not allowed to have cars on campus, either...

Thanks for posting this article.
I couldn't agree more with its sentiments. I think we would live in a very different world if people fully respected each other's human dignity, and if couples united themselves completely to God's will and to each other. Contraception is fundamentally an objectification of one's spouse/partner/whatever term we're using nowadays, and a rejection of the fullness of his or her humanity.

There's a reason NFP couples rarely divorce! :-)

The submergence of rationality during the sexual act was long viewed by the Western Church as the point at which sin attached to the sexual act. (I.e.we are rational beings, anything that abates our rational nature sinful.)

A more eastern, and Hebraic view, holds that when we engage in the physical action of conception that we are intstead overwhelmed by God's joy in his continuing creative act. For a short time a spiritual doorway is opened. We are swept up for a short time in the emotional swirl and dance of God's Joy at creation, and, I suspect, provided with a view of the emotional joy of heaven.

This will, perhaps, help in an understanding of the unitive nature of marriage and the sexual act, and why marriage is a sacrament.

This deals with one aspect of human behavior and proposes an idealistic works-focused solution to man's natural sinful nature. However, the so-called solution of abstention causes its own set of problems. A man who chooses to abstain rather than have relations using contraception will be more likely to look at women with lust and commit adultery in his heart. Try to tidy up man in one area through works and another problem pokes out. Bottom line is we are sinful creatures in dire need of Christ.

Sexually, we resemble baboons. This is, and to a certain extent ought to be, true. But saying it seems like a dig, a put-down. We know that human sexuality is something like other mammalian sexuality, and at the same time something more. For us, as for apes, mating fulfills an appetitive drive and satisfies an itch. Like other primates, we reproduce sexually. Again like other primates, we use sexual gestures to express affinity or “matedness” or belonging on some level: Our mating patterns order our herd, our group, our community....

Not true. Only among the bonobo is sexuality somewhat similiar... and then a lot of the contact is same sex
Like humans, bonobo females are sexually receptive throughout most of their estrus cycle. Chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes), on the other hand, only mate during the few days when a female is fertile. Generally, the ranking males in chimp society “get the girls.” Male chimps make macho displays to impress females and can be quite vehement in their demands. Consequently, chimp females do not have much control over who they mate with. Bonobo males tend to be a bit more polite. They ask first, by displaying themselves in a persuasive but non-aggressive manner, offering food or making other propositions—and bonobo females have the right to refuse. Baboons, gorillas, orangs and chimps usually only mate when the female is in estrus (heat)... heres a link click here

This piece is absolutely perfect! You are a wonderful writer, and if you've written anything else, you should certainly post it.
