"More aggressive style of policing..." Officer, are you threatening the citizenry of Wisconsin?

I haven't met a police officer yet, including my brother and the one that taught my handgun class that are for them. Tough.

"“Arming more people with more guns is not going to make us safer,” Bonavia said."

Yes it will, read John Lott's book "More Guns, Less Crime".

I think it's a Union thing. Since more guns = less crime and less crime = less cops...

When I worked the road, myself and many of my fellow officers expected everyone was carrying. If you were a law-abiding citizen and I was not arresting you or searching for drugs etc... ( with your consent, a warrant, or probable cause ) I did not care.

FUrthermore, I told every womam I knew I'd carry one if I were you, but that is in Texas.

“We are not anti-gun, anti-hunter or anti-NRA,” Green Bay Police Chief Craig Van Schyndle said at a press event held by WAVE at the Brown County Courthouse in Green Bay. “This is an officer-safety issue and a community-safety issue. Green Bay, Appleton and Brown County are very safe communities, and concealed carry is a very dangerous proposition.”

He then went on to say that, while citizens of other localities were by and large intelligent, his citizens were so stupid that they would shoot themselves loading their guns, or, if threatened, would empty their guns at the slightest provocation, killing both police and innocent bystanders in huge numbers. "Our streets will be clogged with funerals if this law passes!!" (/sarcasm)

Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect everyone who approaches that jewel. Unfortunately nothing will preserve it but downright force. When you give up that force, you are ruined.
Patrick Henry, Virginia's US constitution ratification.

They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.
Ben Franklin

Arms in the hands of individual citizens may be used at individual discretion in private self defense
John Adams

The Constitution preserves the advantage of being armed which Americans posses over almost every other nation…where the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms.
James Mason

The Constitution shall be never construed to prevent the people of the United States, who are peaceable citizens from keeping their own arms.
Samuel Adams

In a way I can understand. I would feel safer knowing the guy I just pulled over for no seat belt didn't have a gun but in reality though we aren't the ones they should be concerned about. The bad guys are always going to get weapons and they aren't going to care about breaking any laws.

The more people are able to take care of themselves, the less we need police. Bad for the union.

I'll support no conceal carry if off-duty police officers, judges, parole officers, corrections officers, etc. can't carry either. They, like us, will then have to call 911 and wait for help to arrive. Think they'd go for it?

Of course, they'll whine that they're "trained" to carry guns and we're not. I know plenty of civilians, however, that spend far more time on a range than any cops.

Someone should ask his boss, the Mayor, why his Chief of Police isn't doing EVERYTHING he can do now, within the bounds of the Consititution, to be aggresively pursuing crime and criminals. His statement of "more aggresive style of policing" implies that he either isn't doing everything he possibly can today, or that he intends to go beyond what the Consititution currently allows if CCW passes in Wisconsin.

One guy reported in my hand gun class that he was told to open his trunk and instructed not to take the gun out until the officer drove away. He said the officer told him there was no way he was going to hand him a loaded gun, right after he gave him a ticket:') In answer to your post we do the same thing in health care. We approach all treatments as if everyone might be "carrying" (standard precautions).

Yes he is. He is a brute, a bully, and a democrat. He does not care about you nor does he care about your family. He cares about his job and his career. He cares most of all, about his power over you.

The usual anti-gun rights crowd has a new name and chapter in Wisconsin: Wisconsin Anti Violence Effort.

They have the usual bogus solutions to violence too.

Yes, I know. My husband is the one that is the activist on this issue though. I really am getting tired of paying those tickets. How in the world do they see him, going 65-70 miles an hour?

The thing we always hated was the Chief, Sheriff, ( in our case the Director ) speaking out against guns on any topic really and saying they spoke for all their officers. BS, very rarely did I side with administrations views of the public right for self-defense. All that take precautions crap, take a self-defense course, and leave the policing to us garbage, I hated it. The police cannot be everywhere and guys on the road know that fact. It is the local DA and administrator ( usually a guy with minimal street experience that rose through the ranks or politically appointed ) that makes the blanket statement about lock your doors and call 911 etc...

Bingo, we have a winner. If more people are able to take care of them selves, them we don't need as many police. Of course the police should realize that armed citizens have help many downed police in there time of need.
