PROTESTING SOLDIER MOM CHANGED STORY ON BUSH Mon Aug 08 2005 10:11:07 ET

The mother of a fallen U.S. soldier who is holding a roadside peace vigil near President Bush's ranch -- has dramatically changed her account about what happened when she met the commander-in-chief last summer!

Cindy Sheehan, 48, of Vacaville, Calif., who last year praised Bush for bringing her family the "gift of happiness," took to the nation's TV outlets this weekend to declare how Bush "killed an indispensable part of our family and humanity."

CINDY 2004

THE REPORTER of Vacaville, CA published an account of Cindy Sheehan's visit with the president at Fort Lewis near Seattle on June 24, 2004:

"'I now know he's sincere about wanting freedom for the Iraqis,' Cindy said after their meeting. 'I know he's sorry and feels some pain for our loss. And I know he's a man of faith.'

"The meeting didn't last long, but in their time with Bush, Cindy spoke about Casey and asked the president to make her son's sacrifice count for something. They also spoke of their faith.

"The trip had one benefit that none of the Sheehans expected.

"For a moment, life returned to the way it was before Casey died. They laughed, joked and bickered playfully as they briefly toured Seattle.

For the first time in 11 weeks, they felt whole again.

"'That was the gift the president gave us, the gift of happiness, of being together,' Cindy said."

CINDY 2005

Sheehan's current comments are a striking departure.

She vowed on Sunday to continue her protest until she can personally ask Bush: "Why did you kill my son?"

In an interview on CNN, she claimed Bush "acted like it was party" when she met him last year.

"It was -- you know, there was a lot of things said. We wanted to use the time for him to know that he killed an indispensable part of our family and humanity. And we wanted him to look at the pictures of Casey.

"He wouldn't look at the pictures of Casey. He didn't even know Casey's name. He came in the room and the very first thing he said is, 'So who are we honoring here?' He didn't even know Casey's name. He didn't want to hear it. He didn't want to hear anything about Casey. He wouldn't even call him 'him' or 'he.' He called him 'your loved one.'

Every time we tried to talk about Casey and how much we missed him, he would change the subject. And he acted like it was a party.

BLITZER: Like a party? I mean...

SHEEHAN: Yes, he came in very jovial, and like we should be happy that he, our son, died for his misguided policies. He didn't even pretend like somebody...

END

On her current media tour, Sheehan has not been asked to explain her twist on Bush; from praise to damnation!

Developing...

Blitzer is no journalist.
He's a liberal hack at best.
How hard was it to research this I ask?
They hear what they want to hear, and IGNORE the truth.

Sorry, I just have to beat my drum.

And I met a few red stater types but they are in the extreme minority and you meet very few that are consistently conservative on all issues.

What made her change her tune? Or more precisely, who seduced her into being an anti-Bush tool for the moonbat Left?

Sounds like someone has been copying Lib talking points! Do you work for Joe Biden?

No, I'm a balanced budget conservative like most Republicans used to be before Bush told them they didn't have to pay for the war in Iraq because our troops would be greeted as liberators and Iraq's oil revenues would easily take care of any minor expenses for the few months that it might take to overcome a few "evildoers" and "secure freedom". Now that our troops are dying for no good reason and it's costing over $5 billion per month, more and more Americans including conservatives like me in Murrysville and other suburban towns are coming to realize that Bush lied to us and that it's time to get out.

If you still support Bush it's easy to understand why you did not respond to the substance of my earlier post.

There's not one word of truth in this statement you made. I'd say you've lost your nerve. Had more people like you been around during WWII, we'd be living under Nazi rule today.

Oh, wait. That's right. You never had any nerve. You're one of those people who thinks America ought not defend itself until the invaders have already knocked down our door.

No, I'm a balanced budget conservative

A "conservative" who calls Bill Clinton our greatest living president is like a "virgin" who makes a living in porn movies. Nice try.

before Bush told them they didn't have to pay for the war in Iraq because our troops would be greeted as liberators and Iraq's oil revenues would easily take care of any minor expenses for the few months that it might take to overcome a few "evildoers" and "secure freedom".

Let's see a quote proving that, sausage link.

Now that our troops are dying for no good reason

Sorry. Wrong answer.

And that's just one thing on a list of many.

more and more Americans including conservatives like me in Murrysville

Just because "conservative" and "communist" appear on the same dictionary page doesn't mean they mean the same thing.

Bush lied to us and that it's time to get out.

Well, it should be quite easy to prove that. Please do so.

A mother of a deceased soldier who claims Bush is incapable of pretending deserves to have her credibility questioned.

What credibility?

OK, I know you are either really dumb or simply incapable of dealing with reality, but let's try dealing with facts.

FACT: In June 2004, Sheehan said "I now know he's sincere about wanting freedom for the Iraqis. I know he's sorry and feels some pain for our loss. And I know he's a man of faith."

FACT: In June of 2004 Sheehan asked the president to make her son's sacrifice count for something.

FACT: In June of 2004 Sheehan maintained that the meeting was so good that it helped she and her husband return to the behavior and mood that they had experienced when Casey was alive. They newspaper describes it as feeling whole again after 11 weeks.

FACT: She went on to describe that as a direct result of Bush's manner and actions: "That was the gift the president gave us, the gift of happiness, of being together."

FACT: She now maintains he "acted like it was a party." When a surprised Wolf Blitzer prompted her, she went on to say, "Yes, he came in very jovial, and like we should be happy that he, our son, died for his misguided policies."

FACT: Her 2005 CNN description of the encounter ("It was -- you know, there was a lot of things said. We wanted to use the time for him to know that he killed an indispensable part of our family and humanity. And we wanted him to look at the pictures of Casey.") is diametrically opposed to her 2004 description--"The meeting didn't last long, but in their time with Bush, Cindy spoke about Casey and asked the president to make her son's sacrifice count for something. They also spoke of their faith."

Nobody's saying "She says Bush is a liar so she's obviously lying," they're saying "She said this happened but now she says the opposite happened, so she was not telling the truth at one of these times." I would also note that I'm aware of no other family reporting a callous attitude on the part of the President, either at that event or any other.

So, I'll ask again, what credibility?

I'll also ask this: Doesn't it bother you at all that you come here and lie? Sure, there are lots of Freepers who disagree with the President on certain issues, but they use real facts and opinion to support their case. You just come here and demonstrably lie over and over. How do you convince yourself that it's OK to lie?

Everybody knows Bush pretended he has no DUI record

Surely you can produce a quote proving that?

he pretends to want to "save" SS

Your "greatest living president" and his VP ran on social security reform three times and never did anything. Oh, and of course you have some evidence Dubya is lying about his SS plan?

he pretended there were WMD in Iraq

Surely you have proof of this. Please share some evidence.

before leading an ill-fated Crusade that resulted in losses of tens of thousands of innocent lives

Cite a source for those casualty figures, please.

he pretends his tax policies will create new jobs

Where's the unemployment rate? How much has the deficit been reduced? If you're really a "balanced budget conservative" why are you so ignorant of basic economic activity stats?

Everybody knows Bush is "The Great Pretender" when it comes to fallen soldiers in Iraq.

Why does "everyone" know this? Is there some evidence of it? He has looked the wounded in the face at Walter Reed, and he has looked the families of the fallen in the face numerous times. He's flown into a war zone where commercial jets have had to dodge SAM fire just to visit troops. What've you done, besides lie about them and their commander in chief?

My 84 year-old father was going on about this just the other day -- in World War II we lost thousands of soldiers weekly. But grieving moms haven't changed. Most are courageous; a few go off the deep end and spout bitterness. In my dad's hometown there was a woman who lost her son in WWII combat, and she used to call up the mothers who still had sons in the service and taunt them that their boys would be the next to "die for the Jews."
