My 84 year-old father was going on about this just the other day -- in World War II we lost thousands of soldiers weekly. But grieving moms haven't changed. Most are courageous; a few go off the deep end and spout bitterness. In my dad's hometown there was a woman who lost her son in WWII combat, and she used to call up the mothers who still had sons in the service and taunt them that their boys would be the next to "die for the Jews."
