Cobbeldick aims his sights on town's top office Thursday, August 04, 2005 By CAROLYN STEIGMAN BAY VILLAGE _ If Bruce Cobbeldick isn't elected mayor of Bay Village in November, it won't be for lack of trying. He has been campaigning at a feverish pace since first announcing his plan to run for the position in March 2004.

No one goes door to door like me, tries this hard to be accessible to people, or takes the initiative to have Web sites and campaign headquarters in place for the convenience of citizens, Cobbeldick said. What other candidate has rented out the Bay Lodge or scheduled 12-hour days once a month to talk to people?

Cobbeldick makes no bones about his disapproval of incumbent Mayor Deborah Sutherland.

Debbie has presided over a lot of questionable spending and the sad thing is, this is an era where our aging population and young families are struggling, Cobbeldick said. I get a dozen phone calls a week telling me that Deborah is simply out of touch.

If elected, Cobbeldick has vowed to replace Law Director Gary Ebert, a position Ebert has held since April 1986. Before becoming the law director, Ebert was the Ward 4 councilman from 1982-86.

Cobbeldick, however, has charged that Ebert is someone Bay's citizens have found abrasive for years. Cobbeldick would turn the job into a four-year position.

Cobbeldick would like to post the city's budget and assets on the city's Web site at www.bay-village-ohio.com on the Internet and hold virtual town meetings. He also says he would stop the editing of City Council minutes.

Cobbeldick reserves his biggest criticism for Sutherland's fiscal management of the city's budget. He questions the need for a million dollar shooting range for the city's police force.

How many Meals on Wheels would a million dollars buy for our senior citizens over the next four years? Cobbeldick asked. New programs, fueled by new income streams could better meet the needs of our seniors and children ... My aim is to make it (living in the city) affordable once again.

Cobbeldick didn't say, however, where these new streams of income would come from, if not from taxes, which he said are too high.

Cobbeldick was born and raised in Bay Village and served in the Marine Corps from 1984-90. His work experience since his discharge has been wide and varied.

From 1990-92, he worked as a copy and floor editor for a newspaper in Utah. Then he worked for a year as a manager for a commercial photography consultant. This was followed by working four years as an emergency dispatcher for the Salt Lake City International Airport.

He earn his bachelor of arts degree in management from the University of Phoenix in 1998 by going to night school. Cobbeldick moved back to Bay the following year.

He worked for one year as a facilitator for Ernst & Young. Then, he moved on to being a project manager for a consulting firm for one year. From 2001-03, Cobbeldick also worked for Columbiana County performing efficiency studies.

Cobbeldick still owns the windows blind franchise, Bayview Window Fashions, that he bought in 2002.

He served as the sales manager for American Home Mortgage from 2003-04.

Since then, he has been a mortgage broker specializing in commercial real estate. He is also licensed in residential real estate and works for Ohio Lending Solutions in Westlake. He has launched Bay Portal Companies Inc. and Alternet Consulting.

Cobbeldick's campaign headquarters is located in Bay Square in Bay Lanes and his email address is cobbledick@comcast.com on the Internet.

Thank you for that information.
I was incorrect in my Bay Village knowledge.
Can you check Strongsville or Middleburgh Heights?
There was a suburb that was supposedly 100% turnout that went for Bush, and IIRC, it was a place Bush visited that had well over 10,000 supporters.
Kucinich's district was not tallied online until well after midnight - the only district in Cuyahoga County that was withheld for whatever reason. I have my suspicions, as Kooch was within the margin of error to lose.

In 2004, Strongsville voted for Bush, who got 56.07% to Kerry's 43.56%, with a turnout of 22,214 voters. In 2000, there were 32,859 registered voters in the city, so the turnout doesn't raise any eyebrows.

In 2004, Middleburgh Heights voted for Kerry, who got 52.29% to Bush's 47.28%, with a turnout of 7,686 voters. In 2000, there were 11,981 registered voters in the city, so that isn't too suspicious either.

People sometimes play games with registered-voter totals to try to claim that there was heavy illegal turnout, but I haven't seen any official record of Ohio registered voters for 2004, so this could well be an urban legend.

Oh how many after school beatings he must have suffered with that name. Each one deserved.

His campaign manager is Charlie Balch. Do what you will with that information. ;-)

Did you check out the candidate's website? The webmaster needs to edit better! "A mayor who is consicious spending." Umm, what does that mean exactly??
