Beauprez outlines immigration-control proposals

BY THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

August 6, 2005

FORT COLLINS - Tough penalties should be levied against businesses that employ undocumented immigrants, Republican gubernatorial candidate Bob Beauprez said.

The congressman from Denver's northern suburbs also said the government should offer incentives for undocumented immigrants to turn themselves in. They then could be sent to their native country, where they could apply for a work visa or other way to return to the United States, Beauprez said.

"I don't think anything short of 'You go home and you apply' is acceptable," Beauprez said. "The opportunity to at least return to legitimate employment is pretty significant" as an incentive.

What happens in the deep, dark, bowels of the underground economy when a U.S. Congressional Candidate stands up and says "I want you to go to jail for hiring illegal aliens."

(Would you vote for this man? Are there many more like him? Is he a 'one-issue' candidate?)

Oh, right, if we offer them incentive they'll come filing in.

Aren't businesses sued enough?!! That's one reason businesses hire illegals is fewer suits filed by american citizens looking for a fast buck

HERE'S A THOUGHT - PUT THE ILLEGALS IN JAIL AND FINE THE COUNTRY OF ORIGIN (NOT ALWAYS MEXICO BY THE WAY)

Lol, does he want us to PAY them to be deported? What other incentive would work other than amnesty or citizenship?

So far, Beauprez doesn't seem to be the wishy-washy disappointment that Owens has been.

If they are avoiding being sued, it seems to me that you are admitting that the threat of suit would work.

It is the business seeking the fast buck. The employer of illegals breaks the law to get other people to pay for services that would otherwise cost them money. They are avoiding the bureaucracy in hiring an American citizen or legal immigrant, not to mention lower wages. If you wanted to level the playing field you would have to rid us of the entire welfare state. That's not going to happen.

HERE'S A THOUGHT - PUT THE ILLEGALS IN JAIL AND FINE THE COUNTRY OF ORIGIN (NOT ALWAYS MEXICO BY THE WAY)

Um, and how would you propose we collect on those fines?

Yes, businesses are sued all the time, many of which are for frivolous reasons. This is not frivolous. They are breaking the law and encouraging aliens to invade. If a businessman knows he will be fined into non-existence or do jail time, the hiring of illegals will end.

Exactly, the hiring of Illegals is a criminal act against the Laws of this country and is plainly theft from the Taxpaying US Citizens. These Criminal Employers will only stop doing so when they are faced with serious punishment, prison time and fines. Do this to the most egregious violators and begin enforcing all Immigration Laws...presto, problem will solve itself!!

That's not enough. Government needs to get a slap across the rump too. Withdrawl taxpayer funded programs for illegals.

looks like some gubernatorial candidates are getting on the illegal immigration shuttle

Beauprez in Colorado, Kilgore in Virginia

It would be an interesting study to track the rise in inclusion of illegal immigration as a campaign issue from 2004, where it was mostly ignored outside of a few places like the Cannon/Kolbe primaries, through 2006 and beyond.

Robert Vasquez (R-Idaho), who is running for Congress in the open 1st CD (Butch Otter is running for Governor), is making illegal immigration the centerpiece of his primary campaign. I receive e-mails from his campaign, and so far he has referred to several of his potential primary opponents and Senator Craig as "pro-illegal-immigration RINOs" for supporting the provision of medical services regardless of immigrant status. Vasquez's rhetoric is a bit over-the-top, but I think he's got some great ideas and would really shake things up in Washington.
