Al Qaeda may target US, Britain and Australia this year
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1472172/posts
Al Qaeda has listed the United States and Australia as prime targets for attacks this year along with Britain, South Koreas spy agency has reported, according to a lawmaker on Saturday.
South Korea, Japan and the Philippines are secondary targets, South Koreas National Intelligence Service (NIS) told parliament this week, quoting a senior Al Qaeda member arrested last month.
According to NIS, this terrorist testified that South Korea, Japan and the Philippines are secondary targets, while the United States, Britain and Australia are the prime targets for this year, a lawmaker told AFP. NIS did not reveal the name of the Al Qaeda member, where he was arrested or what country handed over the information, according to the lawmaker sitting on the National Assemblys intelligence committee, who requested anonymity. The comments come after the Financial Times quoted French investigating magistrate Jean-Louis Bruguiere as saying that an Asia-Pacific financial centre such as Sydney, Tokyo or Singapore could be targeted by Al Qaeda extremists.
NIS told the committee that security officials were on alert for attacks in South Korea, which is hosting an Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in the southern port of Busan in November.

"Saudi dissident shuts down site"
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "A Saudi exile facing calls for his deportation from Britain has closed parts of his controversial website.
Dr Muhammed al-Massari's site has shown images of suicide bombings in Israel and Iraq in the past, as well as messages from supporters of al-Qaeda.
He said the decision to shut down was his own, but that the site was a victim of the murder of freedom of expression.
The home secretary recently set out the grounds on which those promoting terrorism can be excluded from the UK.
Dr al-Massari, 58, is thought to be one of a number of people being looked at as part of the government's drive to deport those it says glorify or promote terrorism.
Tory homeland security spokesman Patrick Mercer said Dr al-Massari was "a prime candidate for deportation"."

"Saudi exile runs urban warfare website in UK"
DIPESH GADHER AND HALA JABER
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "A PROMINENT London-based Saudi dissident, Muhammed al-Massari, is running a website that features a guide to urban warfare for potential terrorists."
ARTICLE SNIPPET #2: "Muhammed al-Massari has been ahead of the curve in what we now call the electronic jihad, said Rebecca Givner-Forbes, an analyst at the Terrorism Research Center in Virginia, a security consultancy that advises the United States government.
There are six or seven jihadi websites which are what I call the in crowd sites, she added. Massaris site runs a message board that is definitely on that list."

"Bomb on Philippines Ferry Injures 30"
Sunday, August 28, 2005
MANILA, Philippines
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Military spokesman Lt. Col. Buenaventura Pascual said in Manila that a homemade bomb was placed in a trash can. Brig. Gen. Raymundo Ferrer, who rushed to the scene, said a firebomb may have gone off near the ferry's canteen, citing a statement by the skipper and the nature of the victims' wounds.
"It's an IED," said Ferrer, the army commander in Basilan, referring to an improvised explosive device the military term for homemade bombs."
ARTICLE SNIPPET#2: "Ferrer said the ship's security measures included two soldiers who stood at a gangplank to inspect incoming passengers.
A bomb went off on a ferry in Manila Bay last year, killing 116 people in the country's worst terror attack. Two bombs injured 30 people in southern Zamboanga city early this month. Both attacks have been blamed on the al-Qaida-linked Abu Sayyaf group."

"At least 20 wounded in blast at Beersheba bus station"
By MARGOT DUDKEVITCH AND JPOST STAFF
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Two of the wounded, both security guards who kept the bomber from entering the bus station, were in critical condition and were evacuated to the Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba.
The rest of the wounded, most of whom suffered light injuries or shock, were also evacuated to hospital, a spokesman for Magen David Adom said."
ARTICLE SNIPPET #2: "Initial investigations suggested that the bomber had intended to blow up at the Soroka Medical Center, Channel 2 reported.
This is not the first time a bomber has attempted to target the hospital. In June of this year a woman was caught at the Erez crossing wearing explosives stitched to her underwear, headed for the Beersheba hospital. The woman had been regularly receiving treatment for burns there over the previous year. She told interrogators that she had wanted to kill 40 or 50 people, including as many youngsters as possible."
