A day (actually 2 yrs) in the life of President Bush (8/6/05): many photos

PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: With the President, First Lady and the dogs relaxing at the ranch this weekend, there are no new photos to post. So I've selected a theme -- GWB and our Armed Forces -- and found many photos to let us enjoy a walk down memory lane. The theme photos are all from early in his presidency. They show GWB's closeness with our military both before and after 9/11/01.

THE WEEK AHEAD:

Monday, the President travels to Albuquerque, New Mexico. He will be touring the Sandia Laboratory there, and then will be making remarks after signing the comprehensive energy legislation that passed recently.

Tuesday, the President is going to have his economic advisors to the ranch. He will participate in a briefing with them on the state of our economy. Afterwards, GWB will make some remarks and participate in a press availability.

Wednesday, President Bush will traveling to Aurora, Illinois, where he will sign the transportation legislation. Aurora is the largest town in the north-central Illinois congressional district of House Speaker Dennis Hastert.

Saturday, tentative, but the President usually participates in an RNC event in August at the ranch. As of yesterday, the President's schedule was not firmed up beyond Wednesday.

QUOTE OF THE DAY Excerpt from the presidential radio address, Saturday, August 6, 2005:

As families across the country enjoy the summer, Americans can be optimistic about our economic future. In the past four years, our economy has been through a lot: we faced a stock market decline, a recession, corporate scandals, an attack on our homeland, and the demands of an ongoing war on terror.

To grow the economy and help American families, we acted by passing the largest tax relief in a generation. And today, thanks to the tax relief and the efforts of America's workers and entrepreneurs, our economy is strong and growing stronger.

This past week, we learned that America added over 200,000 new jobs in July. Since May of 2003, we've added nearly 4 million new jobs. The unemployment rate is down to 5 percent, below the average of the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. And more Americans are working today than ever before in our nation's history.

We need to make the tax relief permanent, end the death tax forever, and make our tax code simpler, fairer and more pro-growth.

Interesting article IMHO those that organise are most definitely from a more privileged background but whether some of the suicide bombers themselves are I would think is open to debate.

No more trying to understand them .. it's a plague that must be eliminated, starting with the madrassas and righteous thinking Muslims finally becoming public with their disdain and rebukes of this evil.

I am afraid I have no confidence that this will actually happen especially in Britain.

Sounds like a good option do not think this is available in the UK.

Most people who have cable use the LAN option via the digital top box though you can go for the broadband option separately via cable modem. Alternatively if you do not have cable then broadband is done through the conventional phone line not sure how that works but that is the most common form of broadband in the UK.

My broadband comes through our cable service and coming soon, they will offer broadband phone service to compete with our phone company...I don't know the details yet, but they assured me that when it's available they'll let me know...they promised it would be cheaper than our phone company, that remains to be seen..

I think that sums it up very well and I believe she is actually involved with some group cannot think of their name or what or how deep her involvement is but whatever IMHO it is not fitting that the wife of the Prime Minister should be that vocal on this or any issues.

Fair enough have her career fight her battles whatever in court but not make public statements, if the press want to dig into cases that she involved in so be-it but to encourage it with Statements etc from her IMHO is wrong

Like Laura here, she may have her own opinions on
certain issues but she is not going to go tooting off
and counter the prez's agenda.

I think Blair has made a firm stand ... and clearly announced the position that will be adopted. I loved it when he said, "We welcome people here who share our values and our way of life. But don't meddle in extremism because if you meddle in it ... you are going back out again."

and that living there is not a right .. that it carries responsibility.

God bless him for that fortitude .. may that message be as strongly stated and carried out here in the US.

I agree Star I just hope that the words are carried out in actions and that the Muslim Leaders in Britain condem the terrorists but I fear that the latter is unlikely and the former will take for ever to actually happen.

I hope I am wrong but I unfortunately I feel that it is all talk and do not see anything changing quickly.
