In Catholic grade school, for goodness sake, we were taught that according to Islamic legend the black stone of the Kaaba was originally white, until mankind's sins stained it. Oh - we also learned that the Crusaders were the good guys.

Mecca being destroyed? Gosh, what bad news. ;')

I think the real reason for the destruction of those villages is twofold. Number one, they were probably the very places where Mohammed massacred the Jewish population of Arabia; and two, the later story about how events of the Bible actually took place in Arabia -- a view adopted in various 20th century books -- undermines the claims that only "Moslems" have ever lived in Arabia.

This just proves Islam is a "living religion" not tied to its past. The Koran is a living document to be interpreted by the Wahabbists much as our own ACLU is entitled to interpret our living constitution. < / sarcasm>
