PANAMA CITY, Fla. — A man who got angry with his wife because she wanted to cuddle after sex when what he really wanted to do was watch sports on television was sentenced to death for killing her with a claw hammer. Christopher Offord, 30, was sentenced Wednesday by Circuit Judge Dedee Costello, who said the brutality of the crime outweighed any mental problems Offord may have had.
"The defendant struck his wife approximately 70 individual blows after spending a happy interlude with her,'' the judge said. "Her desire to cuddle after sex does not justify the extremely violent, brutal response of the defendant.''
Offord pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the 2004 slaying of Dana Noser, 40, at his apartment.
He confessed to a bartender at a sports bar before his arrest. He told investigators that his wife had been nagging him to come back to bed.
Offord did not speak in court but said in a jailhouse interview in June: "I figured I killed her so I deserve to die.''
I was awaiting that response when I posted this.
I am glad he was given the maximum penalty the law allows. I expect that he'll get what he deserves in the afterlife.
There's actually more to this story than the national news is saying. The wife had been living with her mother off and on and had told her nutty husband that she wanted a divorce. According to the local news, it was the divorce that triggered the attack, not the sports show cuddling. I guess one makes a better story than the other.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - we need some "common sense hammer control laws". And we need them "for the children".
Statistics show that '3 million'children a year' are killed by hammers and that 'every three hours' someone dies as a result of being hit by a hammer.
Naturally I made up the above statics, just like the gun grabbers do :-)
He preferred sports over sex? He should die.
Although what he did was wrong, I can understand.(OJ defense according to Chris Rock).

When he becomes somebody's "wife" in prison, will he dare to make the same request?
I have the distinct impression that he will be someone's Mrs at the jail. (shudder)
I think he should be put in a cell with the most violent sex offender they have in prison and turn a deaf ear to his screams for help.
