CRAWFORD, Texas - President Bush has turned his remote ranch into a stage for down-home diplomacy, where a barbecue grill and a pickup truck have become his favorite tools for dealing with world leaders.
The 1,600-acre property in central Texas is a place where aides say the president feels most comfortable and can spend more get-to-know-you time with his guests than in hurried Washington. On Thursday, Colombian President Alvaro Uribe will be the 14th foreign leader to visit the ranch.
Bush's dog once wandered through a press conference with the Australian prime minister. The president led the Saudi crown prince by the hand through blooming bluebonnets. And Russia's president was treated to a hoedown with cowboy cooks and a swing band.

Wish I could get an invite to the ranch.
I second that!! Just don't let it be Ollie Stone doing the writing.
LOL from the article:
There are no horses on Bush's Prairie Chapel Ranch. He calls himself a "windshield rancher" and has delighted in giving VIPs a tour in his white pickup or on his John Deere Gator.
"Windshield rancher." LOL. I love my President.
I remember being surprised by that. Vlad Putin wanted to ride when he first visited the ranch, but alas, no horses. I think GWB did say back then that he had a horse or two, but they were too cantankerous to ride.
Not too bad, especially for the AP. This is the first "Bush in Crawford" article I've seen that's not stuffed full of snide remarks and/or adolescent whining.
Thanks for posting this article, Cecily. :-)
Ya gotta go a LONG way to beat a barbeque and a pick up truck. They're the best and Dubya knows how to use them. Bet the dem/dim/libs can't even boil water.
"There are no horses on Bush's Prairie Chapel Ranch."
What!?!?!?!?! How can you have a ranch without any horses? That makes no sense. It's a horse that makes a ranch! I gotta do something about this.
I assume this ranch has a prodigious guest house plus quarters for the SS, staff and comm center.
Where do the press reside? It's a one-light town of 700. Can't see it having a full service hotel. Car rentals, diners, restaurants, and such.
Anybody out there with any first-hand information?
I'd appreciate it.
I would sleep in the ditch to get a chance to interview the president.
I think articles have said before where they sleep, but I can't remember.
Not all ranches have to have horses.....but they do have to have cattle!!!!!
If they don't have cattle....it's a farm!
