Dog Rips Child From Mother Arms

GLENDALE — A Rottweiller ripped a toddler out of her mother's arms in Glendale, dragged the child up a driveway and mauled her to death, police said today.

The dog, which belongs to the victim's grandparents, pulled the child from her mother's arms about 7 last night in the 2300 block of Via Saldivar, said Sherri Servillo, a Glendale Police Department spokeswoman.

The infant was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead, Servillo said.

The woman was housesitting for the child's grandparents, Servillo said, adding authorities received a "hysterical 911 call" after the attack.

The dog is being held by Pasadena Animal Control, she said.

The woman holding the child was also holding a hose and watering a lawn when the 150-pound Rottweiler attacked, said Glendale police Sgt. Tom Lorenz, calling it a "horrific and tragic incident" that has shocked crime scene investigators.

He said the dog dragged the infant several feet down the driveway before mauling her. The mother suffered no major injuries.

After being notified of the attack, Glendale police officers went to the place where the victim's father works in Pasadena and drove him to the hospital where his child was pronounced dead, police said.

I absolutely know what I am talking about.

You need to read up on this subject.

I've sown up wounds on kids from dog attacks.

I also remember vividly a woman whose baby was eaten by her dog.

You can make a poodle vicious if you treat it improperly. Blame the owners and trainers not the animal.

That's ostensibly true, and I've experienced being bitten by small, nasty-tempered dogs a number of times in my life. But the thing is, those small, nasty-tempered dogs confined their aggressiveness to a bite, and once they made their point, never went in for the kill, not having the size or the inclination to do so, even if that's what they had wanted.

How many "sweet as could be" Rottweilers snap for no apparent reason?

You really should look into it.

Well, how come people never make Labs or Goldens mean? It's in the breed, and I wish Pit Bull and Rott owners would just face it. I thought that deserved a repeat.

yes it does!

I have no problem with your actions.

All pets should be educated, just like children. These days, a well trained dog is slightly more common than a well behaved child.

However, people who would take on a large dog of any breed must show the same responsibility as a concealed carrier must.

My biggest challenge is keeping my Rottie from sleeping on the couch when I go out. Nicest dog in the world, but a big galoot.

I agree.. Rottweiler owners are the most naive "heads in the cloud" people on the planet.

Funny that my friend has had 3 and never had one incident with any of them.

"Save it. They are vicious animals and don't deserve to be domesticated."

I agree. Considering how many gentle dogs are available to own as pets, I have to wonder why some people prefer to own dogs that are known to "freak easily."

You are going to be attacked by one of two angry, snarling dogs. One is a pit bull, the other is a papillion.
Choose.

My Mini-schnauzer chewed my brother up last week (the brother who most deserved it too, but that's another story ;) ).

He came in my house and he grabbed her when she started barking at him. He's miffed with me (for the b'zillionth time), I apologized...but bottom line is she did what I wanted her to do with any intruder.

the very proud owner of a three-month-old rottweiler who is as sweet as could be.

Strictly curious...why did you choose a Rottweiler?

The poodle will not be able to rip a baby from its mothers arms, drag it up a driveway, and bite it to death.

That statement would be true I believe.

"Rottweilers have a known trait that make them snap without and reason or rhyme.

Do you drive a compact car? Compact cars are far more dangerous than even the most dangerous untrained Rottweiler. Do you know an accident in a compact car can happen anytime without any rhyme or reason?
I suggest you get to know more about Rottweillers since you are so passionate about exterminating them. Try visting your local chapter of the American Rottweiler Club http://www.amrottclub.org/...spend some time with the dogs and their owners. You may be surprised.
