BROOK PARK, Ohio -- A military spokesman said that 14 Marines wh owere killed in Iraq Wednesday were members of the same Ohio-based battalion that lost six members on Monday.
Gunnery Sgt. Brad Lauer said the Marines were members of the Third Battalion, 25th Marines based in the Cleveland suburb of Brook Park.
The military said the Marines were traveling in an amphibious assault vehicle that was hit by a roadside bomb near Haditha, 140 miles northwest of Baghdad. An Iraqi translator also was killed and another Marine was wounded.
Lauer said the victims names' have not been released. It's unclear how many of them are from Ohio. The battalion has units in Brook Park; Columbus; Akron; Moundsville, West Virginia and Buffalo, N.Y.
Prayers
This breaks my heart. 7 gone yesterday and 14 today.
God bless these brave Marines and their dear families.
The tracs are usually pretty good about stopping IED blasts. This must have been a heckuva an explosion to penetrate the armor AND kill almost everyone inside.
Bolting more armor to the vehicles is not the answer, regardless of what some anti-war types say about "sending our troops off to die in thin-skinned vehicles."

I hope everyone will remember in their prayers these Marines and their families.
The few, the proud...
May they rest in peace and may God be with them and their families.
A very sad day for the Corps.

Just....damn.......
Prayers for their loved ones.
How long until we tell Syria to either clean up their country of all the terrorist or we are coming in and taking out the entire country?
Absolutely what a great tragedy. Someone over at the DNC is working with the Devil-- the terrible losses suffered in Ohio coincide nicely with the Democrat's strategy to take Ohio. Last week's DLC Confab in Columbus, this week's push to get Hackett elected , and to declare victory since it was so close, and Soros's ongoing campaign to destabiilize the GOP political establishment really do fit well with the Insurgents seemingly targeting Ohio units.
The question becomes, how man divisions does George Soros have?
Prayers up for the Marines and families, and fellow troops..
Is it this group that "supposedly" a Marine was taken by the enemy?
A very heartfelt prayer and a Bump to the VERY Top, for these brave souls.
Why is it so hard not to notice a bunch of guys digging a hole next to a highway at night and planting very large and heavy explosives ! ?
What am I missing here?
God Bless 'em....my rough men standing ready and giving the ultimate sacrifice on my behalf so I can sleep peacefully at night. Lord, be with their families, let them know we grieve with them and that their sacrifice will never be forgotten.
There's a lot of miles of highway out there.
And 25 previous to this. Lots of losses for this Marine Reserve battalion.

Amen, a sad loss for Ohio families and all Americans who know our troops are doing a tough and important job for us over there.
We here in the US have to be as caring, yet tough as the buddies of those who just gave the ultimate sacrifice. Those buddies weep and then put on their gear to fight another day. We in the US have to do the same, support this war on terror until we see long term stability for democracy here and abroad.
The amount of highway you'd have to monitor. You'd have to revisit each stretch more often than the time required to dig the hole and bury the IED. That would take more surveillance assets than we probably have.
However it should be possible, with the right sensors, to determine that the earth near the roadway has been recently disturbed. It would seem that they could cover the routes they intend to use with these sensors not long before the convoy arrives at any point on that route. I could be wrong about being able to detect the disturbed earth though. If it's mostly just sand anyway, that would make it much more difficult.
I see Al-Qaeda's Ohio Strategy for winning the white house in ' 08 continues...
So who is helping the Iranian rags manufacture shaped charges, the Germans, Russians or the Frogs? Hard to believe the thuggomullahs could manufacture anything that sophisticated without a turnkey setup provided by one of our "allies" in the war on terror.
