Please excuse this vanity, but I don't know what to do. Yesterday, a foreign man came into our neighborhood selling children's books. He had a map of houses that had most of the children's names on the house they lived in. He kept asking the kids about where other children lived (parents were at the bus stop so was this guy and followed them home supposedly in order to sell books). The man would not say what company he was with or produce identification. He said he was from Latvia, but didn't sound Russian. How can you sell books if you won't say what company you are with? One Mother freaked out and called the police. The police asked for ID which the guy did not produce and then let him leave. I am upset and think they should have taken him in for questioning. He could be a child molester, a terrorist or really selling children's books (Although I don't see how). My neighbor thinks we should call the FBI or Homeland Security because captured terrorists had pictures of American schools and this could be some kind of terrorist plot. I have know idea what I should do- nor does my husband-advice please.
LOL
Same here, those guys even put there foot in the door jam, I would answer the door with a buck knife behind my back...
I had one gal bang on the door trying to sell magazines for some trip...she kept pressing the issue and get this, she asked if my wife was home and said if she wasn't she could give me an extra incentive !wink! !wink!...
I told her to bugger off...
Just picking up on your remark on The Southwestern Company. My son participated this summer, and I discovered that my wife and I had been snookered by a very smooth talker. PARENTS OF DAUGHTERS: DO YOU WANT YOUR DAUGHTER KNOCKING ON DOORS AND ASKING STRANGERS, IN MARGINAL NEIGHBORHOODS, IF SHE CAN STAY WITH THEM FOR THE SUMMER WEEKS? THAT IS PRECISELY WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUNG WOMEN IN THE SOUTHWESTERN COMPANY PROGRAM. Southwestern will find a thousand slick ways to talk their way around this central point, but in fact that is what happens once these kids land in the area where they will be working. My son saw it with his own eyes, and he was shocked at the discrepancy between Southwestern's promises (to my wife and me) and the reality on the street. It is incredible to me that no one has thus far gotten hurt. No way in the world would I allow my daughter to participate in such a dangerous program. I'm sure that lots of folks have made lots of money and learned a great deal, but the ethics of this deception are, to me, a complete disqualifier. And I'm sure it's all, as they say, perfectly legal...
It would not hurt to call the FBI since the police let him go. The FBI will not do anything if they don't feel it is warranted. Don't just ignore this however.
Ja, chuts zem, chuts zem all.
