Breaking News from CFRB 1010AM News Radio - Toronto

Airliner on fire on the ground at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ). Unclear as to cause. Announcers asking for updates from motorists in the region on HWY 401. Report says great deal of smoke. I have to go into a meeting shortly but I'll listen for updates as long as I can.

Surviving passenger OLIVIER DUBOS (OH-LEEV-YAY DOO-BO) said there were no cabin lights on the plane for a minute before landing, but his English was a bit spotty, and he might have meant something else.

There was a guy with a Mojave airport blog, he had pics of the scrapping.

Pity, the L1011 is a great plane, there is a new carrier in Bangkok flying a few ex-Delta birds, and ATA still runs 5 or 6 of them for military charters.

CTV reporting that everyone made it out of the aircraft alive.

Incredible.

"It's remarkable no one was killed."

Hold the phone on that. Too early.

I have a feeling early reports that everyone got off may be accurate. Close up on the aircraft appeared the fire started near the wing section, where the aircraft broke in half. I would guess everyone beat it to the forward and rear of the aircraft to escape.

It's being reported that there are injuries.

Fox is saying on its website:

"A Toronto radio station said some passengers were seen climbing from the plane, and that most of the others had been safely evacuated. The pilot and copilot also reportedly were safe and were being questioned by authorities."

You people accept the government party line with blind faith. Do you people not realize that 9-11 itself would not have been acknowledged unless it was ablsolutely 100% obvious? If there had been just the one plane, don't you udnerstand that the government would have said it was 'pilot error' or a 'suicidal pilot'.

AND YOU WOULD HAVE BELIEVED IT!! You would also have attacked all people who questioned this party line.

You newbies (including moderators) are a disgrace to the Free Republic site. You attack anyone who questions the party line. You do not attack his statements directly however. You are only upset that he does not agree with the party line.

I laugh at your foolishness --- but I am scared that you people would have fit in so well in Stalinist Russia.

Please get off of Free Republic now.

Gord Martineau - CP24/CITY-TV Toronto: All passengers made it off the plane, but there are certainly some serious injuries at local hospitals.

Or walk away having survived! :-)

I know someone who did...although unlike in this case, most on that flight weren't as lucky as my friend was!
