I do not enjoy anything about some young girl's possible death but I also don't enjoy thinking about a young man sitting in jail who did nothing wrong and is being burned at the stake because of inneundo, rumor, and gossip.

I live in the Detroit suburbs......The Urban League has made a stink about crime reporting, so the local stations cut back on it.....but even so, your statement above is still true. A savvy big-city girl would have been onto JVDS long before it was too late.
Actually, I do think the city is relevant. People's perceptions of the world are founded in the environment in which the grow up. I have nieces and nephews who have told my kids that they are naive because they have no clue about a lot of the 'street' issues that they are aware of. The live in New Orleans. The mind set there is far different than it is here.
I think the post you responded was pretty close to describing the situation. "Thrust" may have been a little off since no one forced her to go. But, none the less, she was in a new environment where she seems to have had a false sense of security.

You are wrong about that. I have no doubt she was a lovely girl and it is quite obvious she was raised with love and care, and I have never once suggested otherwise. I just live in the real world, many, many, great kids use poor judgement every day, because it is the learning process. Unfortunately, some great kids make the news with one bad decision and that is when other great kids need to pay attention.
She had the misfortune of befriending Joran. I don't think it goes any deeper than that.
