LONDON -- Britain's top police officer, Metropolitan Police commissioner Ian Blair, has lashed out at ABC News' decision to televise leaked photographs of key evidence as part of its news coverage of the terror attacks in London. Wednesday's edition of "World News Tonight" aired photos of unexploded devices found in the trunk of a car at the Luton train station north of London.
The photos were widely picked up by newspapers around the world and even aired on the BBC the next day. The pictures, which had not been released by Scotland Yard, showed an X-ray image of a glass bottle packed with explosives and covered by nails. The network also showed images of the wreckage of bombed tube trains in the aftermath of the July 7 attacks....

Frankly, I am glad to see the pictures of the nail studded bomb. It puts the lie to the captured terrorist that they meant no harm, only to scare people.
I wonder what Gun Show they bought these at? Probably found a LOOPHOLE in the Brady Bill to purchase explosives!
"Its still not something you blame ABC for when someone leaked the photos to them."
Yeah, it is. That's why we have laws against receiving stolen property.
Try telling a cop, "Honest, I didn't steal that car. My buddy gave it to me."
Same principle.
The public can and will help, but we need information, such as this.
"The pictures should be out in the public...we need information, such as this."
Why?
"the Police LEAKED the photos."
not necessarily "the police." might have been a clerk who was sympathetic to the terrorists. or someone who wanted to make some money and sold them.
but what if it was "the police?" why would they do it? what if these bombs were not the sort that were used in the subway bombings? what if they were a collection of bombs that the terrorists had put together, and tested, and found to be ineffective? perhaps they were discarded. even more, perhaps they were a "red herring." left in that car to confuse the investigation.....the Police might have realized that and wanted the Terrorists to think that they had been fooled.....and wanted to get the information out. how would they let the Terrorists know? they could not contact them directly, but used the media leak to convey this message. how did the Belfast Telegraph know that these bombs were made of acetone peroxide? supposedly, they were detonated by remote device after they were X-rayed.....yeah, right. We don't even get 1/2 of the story....we get little fragments of information and mis-information. keeps us busy, confused, and docile.
As to September 11, 2001, George Freidman says (in "America's Secret War," Doubleday, 2004) "The hijackers nearly had a fight over a parking space in the parking garage at Logan Airport. Was this simply a case of nerves, poor judgement, or a deliberate attempt to draw attention to the car, which was loaded with suggestive intelligence, most of which pointed nowhere, and wasted a huge amount of investigative resources."
If Freidman is correct in his suggestion, that the car at Logan Ariport was meant to be a tactical diversion, then the car found at the Luton Railway Station could be another example of an Al Qaeda diversionary tactic. and "the Police" wanted to let them think it had worked....
None of this should exonerate ABC News from criticism. Their recent "interview" with the Chechen Terrorist was an abomination.
Is ABC News some sort of Terrorist propaganda vehicle? Are they some sort of Media Double Agents? Good guys who look bad to flush out more information? And, who killed JFK? OOOOps...I forgot...that case was solved by the Warren Commission, and Arlen Spector's Magic Bullet.
The authorities should suspend all interviews with ABC for at least 2 years.
They were just doing what they could to help the terrorist.
And exactly what are you planning to do with this information that you say you "need"? Will you change anything about your day to day activities based upon this information?
About 15 years ago, the cops used a sting operation to get about 20 fugitives arrested by telling family, friends, associates, that there was a UPS package waiting for them. It worked very well "ONE TIME ONLY" as the local news reported on the sting. Subsequent stings did not work. What useful purpose did the media provide to the public by letting everyone know the details of the sting?
Simply reporting the time, place, and those arrested would have sufficed. The media is not our friend. Just like a government, if you have few controls, it will become corrupt and only care about itself.
Dear Scotland Yard,
Don't trust the media. Ever.
Love, RF.
Hold on a sec, let me get my 3D glasses.
A million cameras -- millions and millions, at least, is the Public at large, once they understand the situation.
That was a radically different form of information. More sense to keep it hushed, perhaps. Still even when made public it helps in many ways -- from further constraining the actions of the plotters, further stressing them, while at the same time raising the the public's confidence.
In fact, those photos should be on the front of every publication in the western world, alongside shots of the World Trade Center jumpers.
Might wake some appeasers up, if that's possible.

ABC is on the other side and rooting for the terrorists. Their intention was to say "look, see what we can do with just a few small bombs if we want to". They want to show the world that a few home grown terrorists can stand up to the great satan and win. The liberal media are traitors.
About the counter-terrorism operations the public does NOT need to be informed.
Re your post #7 - Thanks for finding that link to the article, spycatcher.
But, bvw, don't you think that once evidence like this gets leaked, those who will be on trial for terrorism can claim they can't get a fair trial? I would have preferred ABC waited until the trial was over, because obviously, a jury would see from these photos the inent to harm. I really think ABC should have waited for the jury decision/convictions.
I meant to type: intent...
You make a good point.
I have noticed lots of "news"
is more like gossip
or tabloid nonsense
than reporting. I posted
this in such a thread:
------------------------------------------------
>If this TV coverage offends you in some way or if you
don't care about the fact that this girl is missing and
most likely is dead, I say to you (as the liberal Hollywood
crowd loves to do) Don't Watch It. Censor yourself. You
don't have to tune in
This situation
isn't just about ethics,
isn't just about
individuals
choosing to watch or tune out.
There is politics
at work in this "news."
All these endless stories that
are no one's business
except the family
at the center function to
condition people
to stick their damn nose
into everyone's business
as if it was theirs.
This is socialized
pop culture -- anything that
happens anywhere
is now the business
of everyone! Well, it sucks!
Mind your own business!
