LONDON -- Britain's top police officer, Metropolitan Police commissioner Ian Blair, has lashed out at ABC News' decision to televise leaked photographs of key evidence as part of its news coverage of the terror attacks in London. Wednesday's edition of "World News Tonight" aired photos of unexploded devices found in the trunk of a car at the Luton train station north of London.

The photos were widely picked up by newspapers around the world and even aired on the BBC the next day. The pictures, which had not been released by Scotland Yard, showed an X-ray image of a glass bottle packed with explosives and covered by nails. The network also showed images of the wreckage of bombed tube trains in the aftermath of the July 7 attacks....

So I guess this means a "breaking story" on "Questions about Rove" on tomorrow's news. And then an "oh, by the way," piece later in the broadcast on this "minor" disagreement.

First ABC ticks of Russia now the tick off British Police -- they really know how to win friends and influence enemies.

http://edition.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/europe/07/27/luton.bombs/

this is a CNN article from 07-27-2005 that shows the pictures of some "jar bombs" found in the trunk of a car several days after the first london bombing. these pictures have been posted on several threads here on FR.

the pictures can be viewed on the right sidebar adjacent to the article.

http://www.totse.com/en/bad_ideas/ka_fucking_boom/162155.html

the above link takes you to an internet article on the construction of "acetone peroxide detonators." the reason i went to this web page is that an article in the Belfast Telegraph

http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/story.jsp?story=654560

this article contains the sentence:

"The devices, consisting of acetone peroxide packed into jam jars wrapped with a band of metal, were found in a car rented by the suicide bomber Shahzad Tanweer. It was left at the car park of Luton railway station"

and that is why i searched for acetone peroxide.

so, putting the pieces together, we have the stash of bombs in the trunk of a car, where the terrorists can retrieve them as they wish. but the bomb maker did not get good instructions, for, the article on the "acetone peroxide detonators" clearly states:

...."These detonators should be used within 7 days of their manufacture and should be stored in a cool, dry place. .." probably not good to keep them in the trunk of a car.....we have to presume that the terrorist bomb maker made a bunch of these devices, then put them in the trunk of a car, parked somewhere the others could retrieve them as needed....but the mixture was degraded by the passage of time and the heat of the sun....thus explaining why the second attack two week after the first resulted in only partial detonations.....perhaps the bomb maker did not read the instructions on the internet that i copied for you.....

so that is my understanding of what the bombs were, where they were stored, and why the second attack failed.

i am not clear, however on whether these "jar bombs" were detonators for more explosives worn on the suicide bombers themselves, or if they were the entire package.

and, i posted this information a few days ago, without the actual picures on this thread here at FR:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1453304/posts

and it only got a few comments

Well, they could take them all up to the Tower of London and just introduce them to the IRON MAIDEN, from the inside! :-)
That would work better.

Look, the devices were found by British Police or Scotland Yard. Police were the only people in a position to take these photos.

Its pointless to blame ABC when CLEARLY the Police LEAKED the photos.

I can't imagine any Newspaper, TV operation, (Heck, even some Freepers) who would not print these photos if they were provided by the Police - openly or clandestinly.

Seems to me that ABC is trying to really get behind the terrorists, all over the world!

Between London and Russia, they're just making friends in the civilized world all over, aren't they?

The story is that Scotland Yard showed them to the FBI (or other US LE) for comment and advice, and that the leak then happened from the US end.

So what? Whats your point?

Its still not something you blame ABC for when someone leaked the photos to them.

(Sheesh! I can't believe I'm defending ABC here... Somebody slap me!)

(SLAP!!!!!) :o) You needed that!..

Tony Blair, should do the same thing
that Vladamir Putin did, and declare
ABC News, and all it's personell,
'Persona Non Grata'.

Cut off all access to all ABC "reporters"
or any other affiliated persons or
entities, to any and all press confeences,
breifings and Q&A's, By MI-5, Scotland Yard
or any other member of the British
government. Escort them *out* of any
meetings they shpow up for, oull their Press
accreditions, and deny them access normally
granted to members of the Press.

But aren't they the people who tell us we need to be more diplomatic to win the war and influence peace? They should practice what they preach.

That's great. Now every would-be terrorist has some more information to make a home-made bomb. And we can thank ABC AND whoever leaked those photos for this. I wish some time one of these top cops openly "leaks" the list of advertisers of a major news segment and ask people to tell these companies to stop supporting a news network intent on helping terrorists.

So what's the piece of "blue yarn" on the top of the jar in the last picture. A fuse to be lit? An electrical connection to a detonator in the jar? A cord to yank?

I suspect Google would suffice nicely for that purpose.
