Its pointless to blame ABC when CLEARLY the Police LEAKED the photos.
I can't imagine any Newspaper, TV operation, (Heck, even some Freepers) who would not print these photos if they were provided by the Police - openly or clandestinly.
The story is that Scotland Yard showed them to the FBI (or other US LE) for comment and advice, and that the leak then happened from the US end.
That's great. Now every would-be terrorist has some more information to make a home-made bomb. And we can thank ABC AND whoever leaked those photos for this. I wish some time one of these top cops openly "leaks" the list of advertisers of a major news segment and ask people to tell these companies to stop supporting a news network intent on helping terrorists.
"the Police LEAKED the photos."
not necessarily "the police." might have been a clerk who was sympathetic to the terrorists. or someone who wanted to make some money and sold them.
but what if it was "the police?" why would they do it? what if these bombs were not the sort that were used in the subway bombings? what if they were a collection of bombs that the terrorists had put together, and tested, and found to be ineffective? perhaps they were discarded. even more, perhaps they were a "red herring." left in that car to confuse the investigation.....the Police might have realized that and wanted the Terrorists to think that they had been fooled.....and wanted to get the information out. how would they let the Terrorists know? they could not contact them directly, but used the media leak to convey this message. how did the Belfast Telegraph know that these bombs were made of acetone peroxide? supposedly, they were detonated by remote device after they were X-rayed.....yeah, right. We don't even get 1/2 of the story....we get little fragments of information and mis-information. keeps us busy, confused, and docile.
As to September 11, 2001, George Freidman says (in "America's Secret War," Doubleday, 2004) "The hijackers nearly had a fight over a parking space in the parking garage at Logan Airport. Was this simply a case of nerves, poor judgement, or a deliberate attempt to draw attention to the car, which was loaded with suggestive intelligence, most of which pointed nowhere, and wasted a huge amount of investigative resources."
If Freidman is correct in his suggestion, that the car at Logan Ariport was meant to be a tactical diversion, then the car found at the Luton Railway Station could be another example of an Al Qaeda diversionary tactic. and "the Police" wanted to let them think it had worked....
None of this should exonerate ABC News from criticism. Their recent "interview" with the Chechen Terrorist was an abomination.
Is ABC News some sort of Terrorist propaganda vehicle? Are they some sort of Media Double Agents? Good guys who look bad to flush out more information? And, who killed JFK? OOOOps...I forgot...that case was solved by the Warren Commission, and Arlen Spector's Magic Bullet.
