No problem.
The Senators are all patriotic.
They all recognize that to delay an important nomination during this time of war would be treasonous.

Here's a temporary solution:
O'Connor can go ahead and retire on schedule and we give Clarence Thomas an extra vote until the Senate gets their end of things wrapped up.
That might speed things up.

If Bush wants this over now, he will Recess Appoint Robert Bork until these hearings are held, and let O'Conner retire.

Damn Arlen, you're the Chairman of the committee and pubbies make up the majority. How 'bout a letter to the ranking RAT that says, simply, "The hearings
will start Sept 6, at 8am at (where ever they're bring held). Be there or be square. We'll happily start without you."
Geeze, grow some cojones and get a spine will ya?

We know the Democrats have the public lynching dated as of a week ago.

Specter, they don't like you because you registered with the wrong party. Just let them go and do what you need to do - you have the authority as chairman. Quit playing nice with Leaky Leahy.

The Demrats pull. . .and the Repubs fall.
Am so sick of the 'rats'; wish they could all be tried for treason - for their dedicated efforts to undermine and destroy our Country. . .and be penalized accordingly - a firing squad would be fine with me.
Am also and unfortunately, sick of the Repubs who seem to take a peculiar pleasure at being jerked around by these 'rats'. . .

We thought we had an arrangement and it fell through," said Judiciary Committee Chairman Arlen Specter, a Pennsylvania Republican said in a brief interview outside the Senate chamber. "We are working on it." Funny, I thought we won the election and had a majority in the Senate, a majority on the Judiciary Committee and one of our guys was Chairman of the that committee. Guess I missed something along the way. Maybe what I missed was the chemo attacking Specter a little lower in the old anatomy than he planned on - a little below the belt maybe.

Bull crap!
The hearing date should have already been set.
Spectre is the Chairman of the Senate Juduciary Committee.
He , not the Democrats should be the one who sets the agenda.
But most of us knew this before the Republicans made him the Chairman.

Republicans outnumber the opposition 55-44-1.
Why is there any need to "negotiate"?
