I work in VA and listen to Michael as often as I can ... is he a freeper?
Yes, he goes by "suspects."

The person I spoke to said that since 5:00 (the announcement), he has received 3-4 calls in favor of management's decision. And he has been taking calls constantly.
I have been a loyal listener since the 60's.

Ouch!
I love that station.
I'm not going to turn WMAL off as a result of this--at least, not until later today. First I am going to listen carefully and make a list of all their sponsors. Then I'm going to call those sponsors and tell them that they have lost my business, and the business of my firm, because they buy airtime on a station that knuckles under to an organization, CAIR, that has convicted terrorists among its officers.
What don't they understand about this? There are something like 1.6 million Muslims in this country, far fewer in the DC metropolitan area. There are 62 (or is it 63?) million conservatives. Our buying power exceeds theirs. They are a commercial organization, presumably in business to make money. If they want to make money, kow-towing to terrorists is not the way to do that. As a matter of fact, Michael has stirred the pot enough to get more people listening during his time-slot than ever before.
And that, more or less, is the message that I emailed to the WMAL general manager this morning. Clearly, the Disney organization and ABC are not motivated by principles of honor, integrity, and truth, so appealing to the bottom line is the only viable argument one can make with them.
However, it's not because of his statements that Islam "...is a terrorist organization". I don't care for his mic-side manner with call-ins from listeners.
Kudos to him for standing his ground and speaking his mind. WMAL already makes it perfectly clear that the opinions of their hosts do not necessarily reflect those of management.
Oh...and Islam IS a terrorist organization until the body politic excommunicate the extremists inside.
Here's my comment:
"I've been listening to WMAL radio since 9/11 because I felt your station provided the best commentary.
I understand that you have suspended Michael Graham indefinitely because he dared to state his opinion.
You have lost me as a listener until Michael Graham is reinstated."
I sent my complaint via the "contact us" form at WMAL's website. Must be a lot of folks doing the same, as reponse time was very bad, and the first attempt failed. That's often a sign of too much traffic for too little server.
Eagles Up, locked and loaded (in defense of one of ours).
On my ride home yesterday, the news was done by Rob Gold - If this is the same guy I'm thinking of, He's an Al Franken wannabe on 5000 watt station (no listeners). I'm hoping they're not planning on putting him in Michael's spot. He's boring too.
FYI - the same management group is also related to Mix 107.3 and Smooth Jazz 105.9.
"Dear WMAL: What the hell, are we all living in Riyadh now? I'd like you to know that one of the push buttons on my car radio is set and has long been set to WMAL. Because of your shoddy treatment of talk show host Michael Graham, you are informed that I have placed a red sticker covering that button, with the words "CENSORSHIP". I have hopes that some day I will be able to remove that sticker and once again punch up WMAL during morning drive time. The sticker will come off and only come off the very day Mr. Graham is reinstated to broadcast status. As far as I am concerned, you yourselves have slapped your traditional listenership in the face in favor of non-traditional listeners (no doubt) and accordingly, have 'suspended' my own listenership to WMAL due to YOUR censorship.
He is an Al Franken wannabe. During the early stages in the war he reported that an column of American trucks was destroyed by Iraqi army units. The national news and internet reported the story too but as 1 truck getting destroyed out of a column of 40. I called him up and let him have. He is an arrogant condecending little twit and I reminded him of the NYT Jayson Blair incident and then talked to the station's news editor. He was forced to make a retraction.
done... left voicemail for Berry that HE is the one who should be suspended ... or to tell us what MG said that's wrong and perhaps we could understand ... bye bye WMAL after all these years :(
I used the contact form, also. I was eventually able to send my comment, but it took several minutes to get it transmitted.
Great. What we should do is to complain about this to Hannity and Rush. WMAL would get terrible publicity if Rush and Hannity decided to yank their shows from their programming. I say hit em where it hurts the most.
