Islam's US faithful are happy to embrace the American dream

The mood in Dearborn, home to America's largest mosque, could not be further from that on the grimy streets of English cities where disaffected Muslim youths hang around street corners.

Islam may be thriving in America - it is the fastest growing religion - but it is a religion of a very different tone to the harsh message preached by some fundamentalist imams in the UK.

No one in Dearborn, the unofficial capital of American Arabs, justifies the London bombings.

"Islam isn't in America to be equal to any other faiths, but to become dominant. The Koran, the Muslim book of scripture, should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on Earth."  - Omar Ahmad (co-founder of CAIR -- Council on American-Islamic Relations)

This doesn't surprise me but I wonder what the attitude is like in the large Muslim community across the river in Windsor, Ontario.

America is a more efficacious assimilative solvent than Europe is. It is more open, more universal, and well, more American. That is one reason at the end of the day, I must don't do the gloom and doom thing when it comes to immigration. It needs to be better managed, but the American spirit, culture and message is as strong as ever.

The article doesn't ask why American Muslims seem much more assimilated; This story explains it better.

as opposed to what THIS Dearborner thinks

Ismel Ahmed, the director of ACCESS, an Arab community social services organization, received a disturbing letter in the mail after the cartoon ran in the paper, the station reported. The letter stated:

"It is a shame that the cartoon in the paper singled out Mexican people. It should have singled out your Arab people. What do your people contribute to Dearborn? Tax evasion. Narcotics pedaling. Noise. Dirty houses. Women wrapped up like mummies, and now even murder. You people are a curse on Dearborn. You are the worst people to come to this country."

Not publicly, that is.

Well, judging from the Arab Muslim youth in the last nabe I lived in in Brooklyn, the males tend to spend much of their Fridays and Saturdays trying to pick up trashy (Nuyorican in the case of Brooklyn) and easy women. Their sisters are nowhere to be seen. Of course, the Arab youth like to play nintendo, hang out in internet cafes and blasting hip hip all the time like other "ethnic" youth in NYC's outer boroughs.

Choosing To Fail (Old article, but valid for these times of Islamic violence)

by Theodore Dalrymple

Excerpt:

This is not to deny that social factors in upbringing influence the way people think and make decisions. If the negligent and sometimes brutal incompetence of so much white British parenting (solicitously justified by liberal intellectuals and subsidized by the welfare state) explains the perpetuation and expansion of the white British underclass, if not its origins, could it be that the severity and rigidity of Indian upbringing, combined with British culture's siren song of self-gratification, explain the development of an Indian underclass?

The fact that the Muslim population has a crime rate six times that of the Hindu and three times that of the Sikh suggests that it could, for the Muslim culture of the subcontinent has in general much greater difficulty compromising creatively with Western culture than the other two religions have. This startling difference is a further argument against those who would see in the development of an Indian underclass an inevitable response to racial prejudice: for it is surely unlikely that the racially prejudiced would trouble themselves to distinguish between Muslims, Sikhs, and Hindus.

Muslim parents are more reluctant than Sikh and Hindu parents to recognize that their children, having been brought up in a very different cultural environment from that in which they grew up, inevitably depart from their own traditional ways and aspire to a different way of life. While many Muslim parents send their daughters out of the country at the age of 12 to prevent them from becoming infected with local ideas (but as the Jesuits would tell them, it is already too late—they should send their daughters away at seven), very few Sikhs do so and no Hindus at all.

One thing I've noticed is it sounds very difficult in Europe to break into a good trade union or government job unless you have the family connections. And dont' even think about trying to start a business in Europe.

Whereas in America there is opportunity. Not perfect, but substantial. I can imagine the frustration that builds when you are in a land like France, and you see all these beautiful French women, yet you can never get a job good enough to marry them. You are always going to be the very low end worker in their society.

Sure you can go on welfare in France, but that is going to emasculate the men, and make them highly vulnerable to the death cultist Imams.

Notice how these articles are starting to appear just after the MSM got around to admitting that NO ONE in the Muslim Community was speaking out about the terrorism?

Now all of a sudden the sweet peaceful muslims are all claiming someone hijacked their religion.

Where the hell have they been for the last 15 years?

Only when it becomes obvious to the most casual observer do these people appear and start disclaiming the terrorists. Yet I bet if we audited them we would find systematic donations to middle east charities (fronts for terrorist groups like Hamas etc).

Until they start examining the violent hateful things written in the koran (I can no longer be bothered to capitalize that name), the are in no position to claim that the the "religion" was hijacked.

If the Mullahs, and the Iatollas and the Imams say violence is OK (and they do), who are these rank and file "believers" to say different.

And dont' even think about trying to start a business in Europe.

Oh come on. That's nonsense. I know many small one, two, or five person businesses in Europe, from Italy to Germany to Poland. Many of them are my customers. (which is how I know them).

Most are young people, most have had jobs elsewhere, and then decide to go off on their own.

Know what? is sounds sort of like America...

Oddly enough, I have no customers in France...

Interesting you mentioned French racism and xenophobia. Today, I saw some French women on the train. I wanted to try to throw my limited French skills around. I asked "Quelle es le metro arrivier?" (When's the train coming) They said "En cinque minuites" (In 5 minutes) and talked to me like I was some kind of lowlife. I look very ethnic and they thought I was Algerian. So I flipped them off, and I said "Vive L'Algeirs!" and they were offended. I later then asked them "Tu parle Alemange"? (Do you speak German?) They said "non". I then said "merci" and I pointed to the American flag on my Tae Kwon Do uniform.

They were speechless.

I can believe it, I know many French dont' like the foreigners. But the worst offenders are ironically the leftists who claim to be very multi-cultural. Yet you better believe their government or union job, is 99% white French only. As those jobs you basically need connections for.

When the other ethnic groups can't find jobs they end up on welfare. Which makes the French mad that they are paying for other people's welfare. Yet many I believe want to work, there just isn't a lot of jobs, heck not even jobs for many ethnically French. The immigrants still come because its worse in their home nations.

So it creates a situation imo where the French and others are almost begging for problems.
