American Families Are Hungry Too; CAFTA-DR's Passage Questioned

WASHINGTON, July 28 /Christian Wire Service/ -- Early Thursday morning the House passed the Central American Free Trade  Agreement by a two-vote margin, 217-215.  The Senate approved CAFTA-DR last month; it now goes to the President for his signature.

The agreement's said purpose is to open trade between the US, Central America and the Dominican Republic to promote higher paying and better jobs, investment in America and helping to forge relations with developing countries, supposedly cutting down on job loss and immigration issues.

"Why would America purposely give away American jobs to bridge relations with developing countries?" asks Janice McLean DeLoatch, syndicated TV host of Entrepreneurs Edge. "Americans are already suffering from manufacturing and textile jobs being lost overseas. I know this from my own personal business experience.  Our families are hungry too.  I would like to know if those in the US House had businesses deals that will be impacted by this agreement.  Do we deserve to have American businesses go out-of-business for the sake of helping the democracies of Central America and the Dominican Republic succeed."

To schedule an interview with Janice McLean DeLoatch, call 410-515-2991, 443-299-7360 or email info@entrepeneursedge.org.

I'll still vote for republicans when my ideals allow it. I plan to vote for Candice Miller for Michigan senator or governor depending on what she decides to do. She didn't throw her constituency overboard when they conflicted with the party.

"This Congress had better get used to questions like this."

My local conservative talk show is burning up right now with people calling in dissing CAFTA. I thought all "good" conservatives were for it. The callers are foaming at the mouth and of course these common people are economically illiterate and don't have a clue.

Yeah, "teeth" just like Reagans's amnesty had? When that passed there were provisions in the bill to fine companies that hired illegal workers. Also, it was supposed to keep people from being here illegally. THAT really worked too!!!

Keep drinking that koolaid.

Conservatives are always talking about a "fair profit"...It's time they also talked about a "fair wage"....

1. Read my tagline. My daddy said it to me when I was 6.

2. There are plenty of people over at DU who frequently use the term "fair wage." May I also recommend the works of Michael Moore to you.

Free trade is where it's at and is where the Republican Party is at. If you want protectionism, join the Democrats. Or Japan.

How about the Constitution Party?

Fruit and berry growers everywhere would have their products rotting on the vine if it weren't for migrant workers. No US worker is willing to do the job.

Correction: No US worker is willing to do the job for as low a wage as the illegals.

Isn't most of it devoted to the new regulations, etc. being created and very little to do with trade matters?

That is bull as stated, you needed to qualify that by adding "for ten dollars or less an hour or 5.00 a lug/$.25 /pound. Or whatever the below market scale is being paid these workers

Why do we need an immigration bill, don't we already have the laws on the books or does CAFTA make those laws illegal?

Sounds to me like this bad boy just increased the size of government. Aren't there any real conservatives in Congress.

You say.."Read my tagline. My daddy said it to me when I was 6."

How true it is. For Laura or some other young person with cancer..its a tough deal.

How does the government come into it? If I make more money than you...good for me and tough for you. Thats life. If on the other hand I steal your money, the government steps in....THAT ain't 'fair'.

The government IMO is a referee in a football game who enforces 'fairness' by enforcing rules and hence your rights to win or lose in a 'fair' contest...may the best man win.

Where it gets interesting is in the definition of 'steal'. Theres lots of ways of taking money out of one persons pocket and putting it your pocket...without hitting them over the head.

If you're clever...you simply withhold the money from them before it even reaches their pocket. The government may have a say in how you operate your business for example.

The issues of 'fairness' and 'level playing field' are subtle concepts IMO.

Yes, of course NAFTA, GATT and all the other "free trade" bunk worked. That's why our steel and manufacturing sector is thriving so.

We manufacture more in America than ever before. Get some conservative talking points, your AFL-CIO talking points don't fool anyone anymore.

Theft or fraud are legitimate areas where the state can act as an arbiter. The problem is that "theft" has be redefined by the left for 150 years.

I was being sarcastic. The "economically illiterate" tag was hung on me yesterday right here on FR for opposing CAFTA.

We manufacture more in America than ever before. Household net worth is at an all time high.

You have any facts you want to post, or do you agree with my post?

Over the next year and a half Hewlett-Packard plans to cut 14,500 jobs, or around one in every 10 of its 150,000-strong employee base.

I've noticed that most of the phony "free trade" huckstering profiteers either pay no attention to reality or are purposfully distorting it in an effort to mask their irrational greed.

Apperantly your statement regarding increased wealth and total number of jobs stem from past trade agreements - e.g., NAFTA.

CAFTA is the follow-on to NAFTA.

I was asking for numbers supporting how NAFTA has created jobs in America and how CAFTA will increase them and America's wealth even greater.

And the links.
