Thank you to the GOP members who stood up to the pressure from the Protectionists.

Yes, how dare those protectionists insist that America remain independent and free from an growing world government. The Declaration of Independence and US Constitution goodbye, hello international bureaucracy!

When you see 90% of the Democrats going one way and 90% of the Republicans and President George W. Bush going the other way, shouldn't that tell you something?

Yes, it tells me President Bush has all his ducks in a row and the "party" followed along. Sometimes toeing the party line is a good thing & sometimes it isn't.

CAFTA is going to come back & bite us in the butt. Just watch.

Lets all thank the yea voters for once again putting America and Americans under the thumb of some leftist, globalist orgs like the World Bank and the UN. In my book the Yea voters don't care about the Constitution or our country, just as long as they can line their own pockets. 2006 is going to be a fun year.

"Capitalism, Freedom and Free trade works everytime it's tried."

So before this agreement was signed we had none of the above?

CAFTA will do no such thing...even if it were bad policy (which it isn't) the amount of trade we will do with those countries is absolutely miniscule compared the the rest of the world.

"Thank you to the GOP members who stood up to the pressure from the Protectionists"

If this was a trade bill it would be fine but the trde part was only the fluff to get idiots to vote for it and insure the elimination of the US as a nation.

Someone posted on another thread, quoting:

"The choice was CAFTA or give Central America to China.

Anybody who doesn't understand that, needs to learn about the in roads China is making in the countries below our border.

They understand long-term strategic thinking and chess."

When you see 90% of the Democrats going one way and 90% of the Republicans and President George W. Bush going the other way, shouldn't that tell you something?

It tells me two things:

When you lose control of one or two segments of a market (textiles, low-end manufacturering) your economy adjusts. When you lose control of the majority of your market segments, where does the economy go?

"Capitalism, Freedom and Free trade works everytime it's tried."

Bravo! The one thing individuals truly own is their labor. Why should they be prevented from trading it for whatever with whomever they please? It's simply economic liberty, whereby we are "free to choose" what is best for ourselves.

No, just horse whips. And with folks like you around, there will always be a need for them.

It really comes down to this:

Capitalists and free traders see no limit to the power of markets and wealth...

Protectionists think there is a limited amount of wealth to be created (almost a communistic way of lokking at the world economy).

With all due respect, how is this "free trade"? Are they going to trade back with us? Are their "industries" coming here to set up shop, or is this just another way for CEO's to make those seven figure bonuses by dumping "overhead"?

When trade is neither fair nor "free" it has nothing to do with capitalism. Your horse and buggy reference is really a stretch too by the way.

I'm not attacking you personally, but I totally disagree with your opinion here. The United States is slowly being de-industrialized while enriching foreign countries in the process. How is this a good thing exactly?

Regards;
