The on-going Iraq war as television entertainment-for-profit. Pathetic.

I'm TIVOing it for later tonight.
I'll judge for myself whether it sucks. I generally put little faith in the opinions of people who haven't seen a show.
FX has a great record in my book. If this one sucks, I'll turn it off.

Is this by the same producer as The Shield?

I read an article that soldiers got a special screening last weekend about this and they HATED it. Said it made soldiers look vicious and stupid. One sgt said thank God when it was over and they all complained about it

The promo clip I saw had the tape reversed and showed an M16 with the ejection port on the left, so there's one blooper to start with. I have put thousands of rounds of 5.56mm downrange, and I can tell you for a fact that the M16 ejects to the right.
Fox News Channel used to introduce their War on Terror segment with a reversed graphic showing an M240B machine gun with the ammo belt feeding from the right. I haven't seen it in a while. Did they finally correct that mistake?
This old soldier remembers when the liberal elites in the entertainment media saddled us with the "baby-killer" lie. Some in the media are now acting like they are the new best friend of those who wear the uniform. I hope I may be forgiven if I am a little suspicious.

A single squad is told to sit outside a Mosque full of Islamo-fascists and not return fire. No air support, no armor or armored cav back-up. Just a squad getting shot at and yelling at each other. And then the female soldier who's too tired to dig her foxhole (despite having been shot at and currently sitting in the open), starts complaining about it, reveals their position, the shooting starts, and the squad leader says they aren't authorized to return fire.
What absolute made-for-TV crap.

I'm just thrilled that officers are once again portrayed as idiots.

I've seen the previews, and seen the previews, and seen the previews. Soldiers don't talk like that in real life. It seemed a little TOO dramatic to me. I'm gonna pass.

And now we have Hollywood's imagined race-war rhetoric from the 1960's rehashed and back on the screen. This is their agenda on the War on Terrorism dramatized and put on-screen. At least Vic Morrow's "Combat" was shown as entertainment 20 years after the war it portrayed.

Oh I'm sure it will be a balanced look at our honorable soldiers with no full-frontal swipes at GWB.
Yeah, I'm sure it will be a "support the troops" epic, showing all their bravery and ability in the face of scumbag enemies who have no concern for their families or themselves!
(NOT!!!!!!!)

So far pretty lame and it has nothing to do with liberal politics.
It has more to do with hollywood not having a clue about the military and the people in it.

Steven Bochco promised a show with no politics that accurately covers what's going on in IraqMy God,how far the old media has fallen, now they have to promise to accurately cover.
The media use to report like this, in a time of war!

After watching the first show, I have found little reason or motivation to watch subsequent shows. I predict this will not be a long running series.

I watched it and overall I thought it was good.
Very little politics, with the exception of the Ivy League soldier, and it had a good look.
I'll continue to watch it to see if it keeps the same outlook.
Best line so far, "We didn't come for your oil, we came to kick your ass!"

I won't be watching it again. It showed all the sacrifice but none of the reasons for that sacrifice. Just a lot of gore.
The program clearly shows the emptiness of Steven Bacchico's soul. They just don't get it, they never will.
