Rendell sticking with Knoll

Governor waves off missteps, malaprops in saying she'll be his running mate in '06

Wednesday, July 27, 2005 By Tom Barnes, Post-Gazette Harrisburg Bureau

HARRISBURG -- Even though Lt. Gov. Catherine Baker Knoll makes occasional malaprops and mistakes in judgment, Gov. Ed Rendell says he'll stick with her when he runs for re-election next year.

Asked yesterday if she'll be his running mate on the Democratic ticket in 2006, Rendell said, "I have no reason to expect differently."

Rendell told a state Capitol news conference that as lieutenant governor, Knoll takes her job seriously and "has conducted herself in office with dignity. A lot of people have been touched by the fact she is a caring and sensitive individual."

There is continuing speculation among some Democratic officials that Rendell might want a different running mate next year. Knoll's age, 74, and her occasional bouts of confusion in running the Senate during late-night sessions have raised some doubts about her performance.

But Rendell said, "Name me one thing the lieutenant governor has done wrong, substantively. Sure, she occasionally makes some malaprops, such as referring to me as Edward G. Robinson."

But then the former national Democratic chairman quipped, "If malaprops were a disqualification from office, I would submit we would be looking for a new president of the United States."

Knoll does have political pluses for the 2006 ticket, as she remains popular with large voting blocs like women and senior citizens. She also has allies from a lifetime in the Democratic Party.

Rendell admitted Knoll erred in going to a slain Marine's funeral last week in Carnegie, but defended her overall.

She has been deluged with criticism in e-mails and Web logs around the nation ...

The spin contniues with Fast Ed and Baker-Knoll trying to become lovable, sometimes bumbling-but-well-intenioned public servants ...and sadly succeeding in my rat infested part of PA.

I hope Lynn Swann can mount a serious challange. State Senator Jeff Piccola is unkown to most PA voters...Former LT Gov Bill Scranton III is better known, however I personally never liked him...or his Dad for that matter. (It's kind of a personal thing from when my Dad was in local politics and then Governor Bill Scranton hung him out...left him twisting in the wind during a campaign. My Dad nver recovered from that and his health went into serious decline. If he had survived he would have gone from local to state level.)

Swanny >seems< to be the most conservative candidate and most serious challanger to Gov Ed.

Great news!
Let the stupid bastard tie his career to the loony bitch...
They'll both go down....

America will teach the "unbelievers" that National Security and Loyalty to the nation during times of war are more important than the petty power games the leftist bastards in the Democrat party incessently play....

The nation needs and wants ADULTS in charge....
NOT the petty little clymers of the left...

Regrettably you don't understand Pennsylvania politics. The state is governed by whoever can win Pittsburg and filthadelphia the rest of the state be da**ed. Those two cities like so many are populated by divergent groups who would vote for the devil himself if he had a D behind his name.

Knoll gave Rendell a "Wellstone moment." If there's any justice this will be political suicide for him.

Funny thing is look at how Pittsburgh and Philly have declined with decade upon decade or rat,...socialist rat...rule. Aging rustbelt cities wallowing in debt while politicians claim they're "fixing" that by raising taxes!

Compare that to rural PA, especially the "Big T" where things aren't quite so bad and the ratz aren't nearly as dedicated to socialism.

Local politicos and the Port Authority Transit were recently poping champaign corks after Gov Ed announced his plan to spend federal highway funds to bail out mass transit is getting the nod from The BOys in Harrisburg as well as the Southeest Pa Transit Commission (or some transit bureau). Thing is SW PA gets around 113 million with lots of hoopla in the press. What ISN'T mentioned is that Phily gets around 400 million. ALL from FEDERAL tax revenues.

Being the EE-VILE conservative that I am I wouldn't spend a penny on funding the mass transit money hole...and I am a fan of public transit, especially rail. But if the public authorities can't control spending then let 'em go belly up...let the void be filled by private transit companies like it used to be.

In fact if the federal Govt hadn't supported the railroad unions in looting the RR's during the 60's and 70's we would probably still have passenger service with many of our frieght RR lines.

Start spreading the rumor that the new Touch Screen voting machines, are capable of capturing the finger prints and photo of every voter -- together with their Name and Address..

It could have a chilling effect on turnout from the Democriminal base."

Perhaps we could spread the rumor that it is another CIA plot like Heroine and Crack to wipe out minority communities in large metropolitan areas.

People need to be reminded that Fast Eddie tried to cut off the Military Vote last election. The DOJ shut this operation down -- denying those fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan the right to vote.

It comes as no surprise that both fast eddie and Knoll are low-lifes. It is a question of whether the Republicans can overcome the Philly dead vote and voter corruption in the next election to replace him.

Maybe Knoll was after the dead vote by being at the funeral.

Yuppers to that!...The ratz are pretty consistant with their hatred of the military. I mention it every chance I get.

Total population in Pa (latest stats) show 12.3m residents. The nine largest cities, which includes Philly and the Burgh, has 2.4m residents. That leaves 9.9m who live in small towns or rural areas. What these stats show is that the minority in large cities control state politics while the majority are busy hunting deer and don't have time or don't otherwise give a damn.

If Fast Eddie would call for the ban of hunting rifles, he would lose tremendously!!!!!!!!!!

IMHO, Knoll should be removed from office immediately for what she did!!!!!

Thanks for the ping. I'm glad he's sticking with her. It will make great campaign commercials against them. Between Knowles knocking the war at a military funeral and him trying to stop the military votes from being counted will make for some good popcorn moments.

Looks like you outlined it perfectly. The big PA cities determine the vote outcome. The rest of us live with it.
