Iraqi and U.S. troops respond to two separate attacks; ordnance disposal teams detonated unexploded ordnance discovered at the scene.

MAHMUDIYAH, Iraq, July 26, 2005 — Iraqi Army and U.S. soldiers assigned to Task Force Baghdad helped treat victims of two separate terrorist attacks in Mahmudiyah and Al-Dora, July 21.

Prior to the explosions, U.S. troops assigned to 3rd Platoon, E Troop, 108th Cavalry Regiment, 48th Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, and the Iraqi Army’s 4th Brigade, 6th Iraqi Division operations and intelligence leaders met to plan future combined missions near Siad Abdullah and the surrounding areas which are known for significant terrorist activity.

A convoy used the route just moments prior to the Mahmudiyah explosion to investigate a munitions cache.

Upon hearing of the attack, Iraqi soldiers immediately moved to help render aid to their fellow soldiers in the Baghdad area.

The second explosion came as 3rd Platoon, E Troop, 108th Cavalry Regiment, 48th Brigade Combat Team soldiers conducted a patrol to distribute items to local residents in downtown Mahmudiyah.

U.S. soldiers were only a short distance away and were on the scene in minutes to assist with evacuating the wounded to Mahmudiyah Hospital and providing emergency medical and force protection needs.

Task Force Baghdad soldiers cordoned the area to help the Iraqi Army with their investigation of the bomb attacks. Two individuals were detained. Iraqi Army officials anticipate additional arrests.

Unexploded ordnance was discovered as the scene was cleared and a explosive ordnance disposal team was called to safely detonate the rounds.
