Air America Given White House Press Pass
Tuesday, July 26, 2005 | Kristinn

Posted on 07/26/2005 11:33:42 AM PDT by kristinn

Liberal blogger Eric Brewer, who writes for the blog BTC News, wrote that a 'reporter' for Air America radio has been given a White House press pass.

Brewer says he met the new 'reporter' while going through security to cover yesterday's White House briefing by Scott McClellan.

The Air America reporter is identified as a lawyer from Aptos, California named Paul Sanford. A quick search shows that Mr. Sanford does have a law practice there, but according to his Website he does not have an education in journalism. However, he is a law professor which might explain his erudite debut question to the White House press secretary:

"There has been a lot of speculation concerning the meaning of the underlying statute in the grand jury investigation concerning Mr. Rove. The question is, have the legal counsel to the White House or White House staff reviewed the statute in sufficient specificity to determine whether a violation of that statute would, in effect, constitute treason?"

McLellan responded,"I think that in terms of decisions regarding the investigation, those are matters for those overseeing the investigation to decide."

Sanford is mentioned in a July 15 article in the Monterey Herald here: KOMY will feature six hours of programming from the liberal Air America broadcast network. The new lineup will include Franken, author of "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them" and "Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot and Other Observations"; commentator Randi Rhodes; Alan Colmes; and Santa Cruz lawyer and Democratic Party activist Paul Sanford, who will be involved with programming 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. every day.

Hmmm....Democratic party activist.....Mr. Sanford will be right at home in the White House press corps.

Is Barney's staff our yardstick for conduct now?

What's wrong with defending "alleged" criminals? Last I checked, citizens are presumed innocent until proven guilty, unlike in say Saudi Arabia, etc.

Lack of a journalism education is no disqualifier in my book. Most of the MSM have degrees from journalism schools. Give me someone who is honest and can write a coherent sentence and, POOF, you have a qualified journalist.

It's not what he does, but how he does it. Visit his website.

...WHY??????

It is just plain *stupid* to give this plague rat
a WH Press Pass.

To whomever decided this: You are going to regret it.

Hit the link to his website and looked at the first page. Nothing offensive there. Is there something deeper in the site that reflects poorly on "how" he goes about defending alleged drunk drivers?

Then perhaps now is the time to get a bunch of conservative reps into the press corps.

The standard of ethics is stricter for those who hold elected office.

The left could not attack Talon News for the actual questions they raised, so they attacked the messenger.

He's just considered a "sell out" the same way as Clarance Thomas and Condi Rice are.

For the record, to be credentialed as a reporter one must demonstrate that he receives ober 50% of his income from the practice of journalism. If this guy is a lawyer, it is doubtful he qualifies in this regard.

Further, for Air America to be credentialed as a news service, it must be a going concern that derives its income from adertising, subscptions, etc. It may not be funded directly by partisan interests or engage in political advocacy. Air America doesn't qualify to be credentialed as a legitimate news source.

Someone needs to contact the Senate Press Gallery since it issues credentials for the Washington press corps. Talk to Joe Keenan, 202-224-0241.

BTW, just to be a bit more illuminating...the
above statement wasn't a threat, it was a
sorrowful prognostication.

OK, I'll take your word on this. Now tell me how CBS qualifies after the Rathergate fraud.

It's tough when we generally follow the rules and our political opponents don't. I don't want to break the rules like they do, but there are times when it is very aggravating.

So you're okay with Gannon's extracurriculars because someone else did it too? Okay. I'm not, but maybe I'm by myself on this one.

As for not being able to attack Talon for the "questions they raised", you'll have to refresh my memory - what questions? I remember softballs at the WH pressers, but not a lot of what we might normally think of as incisive, hard-hitting journalism from the Guckster...

"Whose dumb idea was this? Cutting our own throats."

Remember -- it's a "kinder, gentler Compassionate Conservatism"...

....That bends over for the MSM and Dems.

Uh, well, the gay escort-service thing didn't help either.

Weren't we gonna submit somebody? After the Gannon thing the idea was bandied about, but I guess nothing happened.
