Larry Johnson's Group (VIPS) Called On CIA Employees To Leak Secrets To Hurt Bush

Ex-CIA Accuse Bush of Manipulating Iraq Evidence

Monday, March 17, 2003

WASHINGTON — Invoking

the name of a Pentagon whistle-blower, a small group of retired, anti-war CIA officers are accusing the Bush administration of manipulating evidence against Iraq in order to push war while burying evidence that could show Iraq's compliance with U.N demands for disarmament.

The 25-member group, Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity, composed mostly of former CIA analysts along with a few operational agents, is urging employees inside the intelligence agency to break the law and leak any information they have that could show the Bush administration is engineering the release of evidence to match its penchant for war.

VIPS member Ray McGovern, a 27-year CIA veteran who gave intelligence briefings to top Reagan officials before retiring in 1990, said the administration has not made the case that Iraq has ties to Al Qaeda and is providing information that does not meet an intelligence professional's standard of proof.

"It's been cooked to a recipe, and the recipe is high policy," McGovern said. "That's why a lot of my former colleagues are holding their noses these days."

But the CIA said McGovern doesn't have any authority to speak of the quality of intelligence policy-makers are reviewing.

"He left the agency over a decade ago," spokesman Mark Mansfield said. "He's hardly in a position to comment knowledgeably on that subject."

VIPS say their appeals to CIA staff are an attempt to evoke another Daniel Ellsberg, who leaked the Pentagon Papers, a top-secret study on U.S. involvement in Vietnam.

Leaking classified national defense information is illegal, and CIA officers, who take a secrecy oath when they join could lose their security clearances or jobs, and may even face prosecution...

"Disgruntled bureaucrats in Washington should be no surprise. The place is full of them. What is surprising is that these dubious intelligence officers are getting so much traction - or maybe that shouldn't be surprising, given media bias."

Yes. Google any of the names on Johnson's letter, especially the VIPS members. You will see them all over the media, especially PBS. (They practically live on Frontline.)

These America-hating traitors are the "go to" experts of choice by our media. And have been for years. What a surprise, huh?

So the VIPS plead for CIA operatives to "leak" and then when a "leak" happens they go for straight for the administration.

It is OK for liberals to break the law to expose information they want exposed - Daniel Ellsberg, deepthroat, etc…., In those cases, the whistleblowers are serving the public interest!

but if a conservative leaks similar information they should go to jail…
Like the outing of a CIA agent that everyone already knew was a CIA agent, and whose husband was involved in a blatant conflict of interest assignment for known CIA agent.

The double standard in the press is incredible!

"Maybe Wilson was confused, too, when he talked to Spencer Ackerman and John B. Judis for a June 30, 2003, New Republic cover story, "The First Casualty":"

I had no idea he spoke to other "reporters" after Corn and Kristof then his own OPed. I actually did,"literary flair". Did he speak to Miller between this time too?

No..just a gut feel...I think he doesnt know which way its gonna go. If I had to call it he participated in the off the record banter that they all do and he doesnt know if he crossed a line. Thats the best case for him, hopefully.

Former Anti-terror Official: Bush Plan Won't End CIA, FBI Turf War
NewsMax.com ^ | June 6, 2002 | Carl Limbacher

Posted on 06/07/2002 5:49:39 AM EDT by glorygirl

President Bush's massive homeland security shakeup won't fix one of the biggest problems faced by U.S. intelligence probers who failed to anticipate the 9-11 attacks: lack of CIA and FBI coordination, a former government counterterrorism expert said Thursday night.

"Part of the problem that's not addressed in the president's plan is ... the issue of the coordination of the different agencies and the law enforcement information with the intelligence information," former State Department counterterrorism official Larry Johnson told Fox News Channel's "The O'Reilly Factor."

Johnson said that, unlike Bush's plan, it wouldn't take an act of Congress to fix the coordination problem.

"You simply pull the people into the same room and you tell them they're going to do it. That has not happened," he complained.

When O'Reilly countered that Bush may have already done that, Johnson shot back, "I know that it hasn't happened. I talked to [my sources] before the program."

I am putting the tin foil on right now, but on Tony Snow's radio show today he was talking about Hillary Clinton and made the comment that in a few months something is going to rock the Clinton Campaign, and you will hear about it from me first.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the Plame leak??

What panel .. The Dems?

The first public mention of Wilson’s mission to Niger, albeit without identifying him by name, was in the New York Times on May 6, in a column by Nicholas D. Kristof. Kristof had been on a panel with Wilson four days earlier, when the former ambassador said State Department officials should know better than to say the United States had been duped by forged documents that allegedly had proved a deal for the uranium had been in the works between Iraq and Niger.

Here we are! As of January 13, 2003 Joe Wilson was not only advising but officially campaigning on behalf of John "Vichy" Kerry:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1444945/posts

Note that Rand Beers, a pal of Wilson, Sandy Burglar, and Kerry on the foreign policy team of the Kerry campaign, was/is also best friends with none other than Richard Clarke of 9/11 Commission infamy. Clarke says in his book that the very first thing he did after resigning from the NSC was to go over to his dearest friend Rand Beers' house for a drink (they also went on to co-teach a course together at Haaaah-vahd). How much would you like to bet that the cesspool playground of Wilson-Plame-Beers-Berger-Clarke-Larry Johnson-Ray McGovern-VIPS-the Kerry campaign-the Democratic Senate Policy Committee-the MSM and company has been up to their eyebrows in the sewage of trying to take down this administration with illegal leaks, lies, and a scurrilous campaign to defame Bush, Cheney, et al??????????

I mentioned this earlier. In the fall of 2003, there was a documentary rushed out to try to be another Fahrenheit 911. This was funded by Moveon.org:

Here's what I've said about it; don't know if this is what you're remembering or not:

What Wilson Didn’t Say About Africa: Joseph Wilson's Silent Partners

While Wilson was pursuing his foreign investment ventures, he also served as a foreign policy advisor to the 2000 Presidential campaign of Al Gore. . .Wilson had worked as an aide to Gore from 1985 to 1986 and had developed a friendly relationship with him. Wilson says Gore was the first person outside the State Department to contact him expressing support when he was caught in Iraq in the middle of the diplomatic crisis leading up to the Gulf War. In 1997 Gore recommended Wilson to President Clinton to help him plan a trip to Africa. When Wilson began publicly opposing Bush’s Iraq policy in 2002, Gore was still considered a potential candidate in the 2004 election. Gore’s speeches were then being sponsored by the antiwar group Moveon.org, which Wilson would support in September 2003 in an attempt to petition Congress against appropriating funds for Iraq operations.28 Moveon.org was financed by billionaire George Soros,29 who had business interests encompassing, among other things, the BTC Pipeline that Mohammed Alamoudi’s Delta Oil was helping build.30 Later, after Gore announced in December 2002 that he would not be running in the 2004 campaign,31 Moveon.org began supporting John Kerry’s campaign.32 Wilson began advising Kerry’s campaign on foreign policy matters around May 2003, several months prior to his public entry into the Niger uranium controversy.33 By this time, from at least fall 2002, the French intelligence operation to push the Niger forgeries on British and US intelligence was already underway. Meanwhile, from as early as at least January 6 2003--prior to President Bush’s 2003 State of the Union address where the President made the African reference which Wilson criticizes--the Democratic National Committee was already circulating a memo planning a public relations strategy which would include “[c]laiming the Bush administration has ‘manufactured’ evidence against Saddam Hussein and used that evidence to encourage Britain and other allies to join the American fight against Iraq."34

SNIP

Meanwhile Wilson promoted the antiwar efforts of Moveon.org and other antiwar groups, and he became a foreign policy advisor to John Kerry’s campaign in spring 2003, after Al Gore had been effectively eliminated from serious consideration as a candidate and Kerry had emerged as the frontrunner.41

John Kerry vs. the War on Terror: Candidate Kerry's Subversive Campaign

As Kerry's campaign progressed, his foreign policy team gravitated increasingly towards the Alliance for American Leadership, an antiwar-oriented foreign policy center headed by former Clinton ambassador to Morocco Marc Ginsberg. While serving as ambassador, Ginsberg had coordinated new US trade and investment initiatives in the Middle East, including the OPIC Investment Fund. Now as a private citizen Ginsberg consulted for companies doing business in the Middle East.16

In spring 2003 Kerry's foreign policy team was joined by an associate of Ginsberg's who shared his interests in Middle Eastern business, former ambassador Joseph Wilson. After his diplomatic career Wilson had begun consulting for companies doing business in Africa and the Middle East, especially Turkey. His wife, who worked for the CIA, had recruited him to investigate a report of Iraq seeking uranium from Niger. After investigating this report on behalf of the CIA, Wilson joined Kerry's campaign and accused the Bush administration of misleading the public about Iraq seeking uranium in Africa. Wilson publicized his charges and antiwar views with the aid of Communist-friendly publications such as The Nation and Communist-linked groups such as the Education for Peace in Iraq Center, the MoveOn.org affiliate Win Without War, and Secure America. After a Senate investigation exposed Wilson's charges as untruthful, Kerry's website removed hyperlink references to Wilson, though Wilson claimed he remained an advisor to the campaign.17

BTW, on VIPS calling for leaks, Ray McGovern and Wilson both called for "whistleblowers" to come forward during their joint lecture to the Education for Peace in Iraq Center (EPIC) on June 14, 2003. I typed a transcript summarizing the lecture; here's some of what they said on that topic in a Q&A follow-up to their lecture (words outside quotes are my summary, words inside are direct quotations):

In response to the question about what whistleblowers need to do to wake the public up, wherein the questioner mentions that, "You know, the documents are out there, thanks to Mr. Rangwala and others, it was out there that this was all a lie, even before the war", McGovern replies that of all the administration's "lies", "the forgery of course is the most flagrant", and then Wilson adds, "on the last one [i.e. on the last question about what whistelblowers need to do], the administration was very careful about only talking, on the forgery, only talking at the Presidential level about uranium sales from Africa, until such time as it came out that they were talking about Niger, and then that was subsequently denied by the State Department, it was difficult to sort of make the case, although I think some of the people inside could have probably talked about it a little bit more openly ahead of time. The real problem with this is how this intelligence was used once it got in the hands of the policymakers, and clearly this was emphasized--the rumor part of it, the RUMINT was emphasized, and the debunking of it was just set aside. I think it probably has legs, too, because of the course the press operates on profits, and if they can make a scandal out of this they'll do it, you know, that'll be great. And you already hear people talking about the 'i' word."
