Clinton to Direct Creation of Democrats' Agenda
LA Times ^ | 7/25/05 | Ronald Brownstein

Posted on 07/25/2005 6:06:38 PM PDT by nj26

The Democratic Leadership Council, an organization of influential party moderates, on Monday named Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., to direct a new initiative to define a party agenda for the 2006 and 2008 elections.

The appointment solidified the identification of Clinton -- once considered a champion of the party's left -- with the centrist movement that helped propel her husband to the White House in 1992. It also continued her effort, which has accelerated in recent months, to present herself as a moderate on issues such as national security, immigration and abortion.

In her new role, Clinton immediately called for a truce between the DLC and liberal elements of the party, which have engaged in a war of words over the Democrats' direction since President Bush won re-election last year.

The DLC has been struggling to maintain the influence in the party it wielded when Bill Clinton held the White House.

Clinton said that she would reach out not only to centrists, but "progressive people from all perspectives" to prepare her blueprint, which is due in one year. But the remarks from Sirota show the challenge of devising a program that attracts broad support across the party.

"Broad support across the party."

The trouble is, the party's been a little flat these days. There aren't any broads across the party wearing this sort of support anymore:

My one, consistent prayer for the Clintons ...

That the Lord would render the Clintons, and ALL their minions, totally powerless and useless and nameless and faceless and voiceless and homeless and penniless, and that He would strip them bare before the world, such is their evil, leaving only their immortal souls, and it is for these souls I pray.

After watching her speech on C-span last night (from Aspen

I heard part of that speech. She was telling the "elite" crowd that they didn't have to worry about the education of THEIR children, but the riff-raff, well, that was another story altogether. It was unbelievable.

As a discussion with Los Angeles Times Washington bureau reporter Ron Brownstein ended on Monday's Inside Politics, CNN's Judy Woodruff informed viewers that Brownstein will be getting "married this weekend to Eileen McMenamin, a former CNN producer who now works on the Hill for Senator John McCain."

I never understand why the GOP never calls them out on their real agenda.

Because, if you look at the magazines in the waiting rooms of republican senators, this is the one you will find on top.

And they all desperately need a supply of this:

I would be happy if they would just take their millions in publishing royalties, their stolen White House furniture, and their secret FBI files, and head to the Bahamas, Tahiti, Baja, or any other sunny locale outside the borders of our nation. I don't need to see them in the gutter.

But I fear that we will be seeing them for a long time to come.

I have a customer who is ex-military. He was stationed in the White House during the rein of Hillary. In no uncertain terms he describes Hillary: "She is the meanest person I have ever met. Junkyard dog mean."

Found in my email yesterday:
BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU ASK HILLARY

Hillary Clinton went to an elementary school in Ithaca, New York to talk about the world. After her talk she asked for questions. One little boy put up his hand, and the senator asked his name.
"Kenneth."
"What is your question, Kenneth?"
"I have three questions:
First - What happened to your medical health care plan?
Second - Why would you run for president after your husband shamed the office?
Third - What happened to all those things you took when you left the White House?"
Just then the bell rings for recess.
Hillary told the kids that she will continue after recess.
When they resume Hillary says "Okay where were we?
Who has a question?"
A different little boy puts his hand up. Hillary points to him and asked his name.
"Larry."
"And what is your question?"
"I have five questions:
First - What happened to your medical health care plan?
Second - Why would you run for president after your husband shamed the office?
Third - What happened to all those things you took when you left the White House?
Fourth - Why did the recess bell ring 20 minutes early?
And Fifth - What happened to Kenneth?"

Ronald Brownstein/McMenamin:

The couple met in New Hampshire during McCain’s 2000 primary campaign, when McMenamin was working as a producer for ABC-TV.

$100-150 million in her bank account.

And most of this is from her "anti-capitalism, US is evil" rich donors.

Hillary is, IMHO, going to have the worst trouble from her own "radical" groups. These folks turn on each other on a dime. She's either got to give them money, or pay the consequences, IMHO. She's got to play at moderate. And while Howie revs them up for ugly words and actions.. somehow, in her moderate role (taking something from "them" for the common good) she's going to be able to halt the runaway frothing horse? I don't think so.
