Porn, pork and Pabst -- you're safe from them at Caribou Coffee. In an SEC filing last week for its initial stock offering, the Brooklyn Center-based coffeehouse chain noted that it operates its business according to the Islamic principles known as Shari'ah.

"A Shari'ah-compliant company is prohibited from engaging in derivative hedging transactions such as interest rate swaps or futures, forward options or other instruments designed to hedge against changes in interest rates or the price of commodities we purchase," Caribou said in its filing. "Also, a Shari'ah-compliant company is prohibited from dealing in the areas of alcohol, gambling, pornography, pork and pork-related products."

Atlanta-based Arcapita Inc. owns 84 percent of Caribou. Arcapita is the U.S. private-equity arm of Arcapita Bank B.S.C., a Bahrainian investment group

Up-and-coming coffee retailer Caribou keeps compliant with Shari'ah law. Well, isn't that special.

Doesn't matter to me, because I would sooner keep my money instead of shelling out four bucks for a cup of coffee. But if you are in the habit of paying waaaaay too much for your morning joe, just something to consider...

Shame, because I really enjoy the shots of booze and the pork rinds served at the blackjack table by the nude waitress at my local Starbucks.

Pffft! Big deal! When was the last time someone asked you "would you like one lump or two lumps of pork fat in your coffee?" How moral of them to forbid it when it's not even part of the drink or business!

I'll stick with "It's a Grind" - they bring you your coffee, chairs are comfy, music is good, and the WiFi is free.

Wow. A company that makes Starbucks look good.

Starbucks is a great company. Their coffee is served for free on the mess decks of our aircraft carriers. I know because I drink it there.

On the other hand, Starbucks contributes to gun-grabbing organizations, so I take my own business elsewhere.

What's the problem here? They have a religious bent and they're following it. You can't get pork chops in a Kosher restaurant, either.

That's cool. Stay safe. Thanks for your service.

I wouldn't expect a coffee shop to sell any of those things anyhow, so it just looks like they're making an issue of being Islam-compliant.

Would one generally expect to find pork, beer, or lottery tickets at a coffeehouse? It's not the sort of business I frequent, but those seem like unrelated products, to me.

This needs to made public everywhere.
The folksy Minnestota backwoods theme is a cover for Islam.

I used to like their product when in the Twin cities but will not go in one again.
