now up to 7.2
check http://www.iris.edu/seismon for map and details
Nicobars - affected by last year's tsunami. 7.0 - borderline strong enough to generate tsunamis. Let's hope it was under the borderline.
Won't be too many people on the beaches today. Hope no one is hurt.
bttt
I won't be able to bird dog this thread, so if anyone is interested...
I didn't feel anything.
Bump/Ping
Not very deep, either. Only 10KM.
Local news here in Thailand is going nuts over this. From what I understand, they have evacuated coastal areas like Phuket already just in case.
bump
I hope they are providing adequate notice to people in the region to keep an eye open for tsunami.
Then again, after December 26th, I doubt they've stopped thinking about tsunamis.
Thailand just issued a tsunami warning.
We are headed near there in early August. Hope no one was hurt again. We always seem to be scheduled to go places after the big event. We don't change our plans.
Usually things are less crowded and the hosts are even happier to see you..plus our $'s help get them back on their feet. So don't give up your plans to travel to SE Asia just becasue of a Tsunami, eathquake, bomb or disease..
Per Fox News...........Thailand just issued Tsunami warning.
That's a biggie.

Here's the USGS world link
You left out fire and famine.
Thanks. I know about the USGS site, but I like IRIS site better for the map. It's larger and easier for me to read (I've got REALLY bad eyes) and I like the fact that it shows, at a glance, the day/night sections of the world. That's sometimes a useful piece of information, whether looking at an earthquake event or just a quick check when a news event happens somewhere.
I actually found it while looking for one of those day/night world maps to put on my desktop. I wrote a little HTML page that I embed the image in and have a metatag do a refresh every half hour. I did another one of the local weather radar off of NOAA.GOV, with a refresh every 5 minutes for that one.
