SHARM EL-SHEIK, Egypt - Egypt's president vowed Saturday to hunt down terrorists who unleashed a rapid series of car bombs and another blast in this Egyptian Red Sea resort, devastating a luxury hotel and a coffee shop and killing at least 88 people in the nation's deadliest terror attack.
The early morning attacks, which used more than a half-ton of explosives, came just two days after the latest strikes in London and sent an already jittery world reeling again. At least 119 people were wounded, the Interior Ministry said.
With two extremist groups claiming responsibility, Egypt tightened security at other busy tourist sites like the Pyramids and Luxor, and the government and British tourist agencies sent large aircraft to the Sinai to fly home nervous tourists.

They aren't "allowing" it to happen. These Islamofreaks are a loose-knit, well-funded, worldwide guerrilla army. It matters not to them if you're Muslim or non-Muslim. They are waging war on the entire world. Literally.
I wish the Egyptians success in rooting out the cancer that would commit such acts of evil.
There are millions (6 to 7 million) of Christians who live in Egypt (Coptics). They are thought to be the original descendants of the ancient Egyptians.
So do I. If these terrorist acts against Muslims have the effect of finally making some of them become our GENUINE allies in this World War we're in, then we might finally have turned a significant corner.
I would like to say something like "well, this will anger the peaceful muslim population" or "committing horrors like this will certainly cause people to turn in the terrorists", but I know that I would be lying. This kind of horror is exactly what they want. This is Islam. The wholesale murder of masses of innocent people defines the religion of Islam. This is Islam, and this is why Islam must be destroyed.

It is the center of gravity of the Arabic world and the true power in the region. The state itself is secular. They are not allowing any kind of violence, but they have the same problem stopping the nutjobs that every other state does. Egypt has a strong military, and if military action could stop this they would use it immediately.
Based on those pictures, that was no "car" bomb. It had to have been at least a small truck and at least 2000lbs of high explosive.

This is why it was such a prime target. The islamofascists HATE psuedo islamic regimes like Egypt (ie. the population is muslim, the president is muslim, but the state is not an islamic theocracy run by taliban like mullahs). They know that if they are going to stir up the world war they want they will have to turn far far more of the billion muslims on the planet into islamofascists. Having a pop at Sharm El Sheik has the double advantage in their minds of taking out many westerners whilst also serving to destabilise the Mubarak regime - like you say all that tourist hard currency will dry up, it will hurt the egyptian economy, the people will be less prosperous - the mullahs will blame hard times on the west and promise 'only true islam is the answer' the young and stupid will buy the argument, the cycle of violence will increase. Eventually one of these vulnerable states will fall (Iraq? Pakistan? Egypt?) to a taliban like fundamentalist and they will have access to the arsenal of a state rather than just the home chemistry sets and box cutters they play with now (to such effect!). It is Osama's master plan. Scary huh?

Simple. It's not about hate, or what we did in Iraq, or anything like that. They want to impose their mixture of Islamist religious zealotry and a Marxist-Leninist-Hitlerian political ideology on the entire world. They are at war with us, and these are not criminal acts, but acts of war.

Sure is...remember OBL and his minions want a holy war jihad pitting Muslims against the world. Most Muslims do not want this however if enough atrocities are committed in the name of Islam the whole world will be inflamed and full scale war against Islam is a possibility. The Muslim mind is conflicted then....war against terror or allegience to Islam? This is what OBL and jihadists are pushing for with ever increasing terror attacks as their gameplan to accomplish jihad goals.
At least one of them was very large. You don't get that much damage to concrete structures without a large amount of high explosive.
