I just received this FReepmail from rdb3's stepson.
I am presenting it here, names excised to satisfy my own institutional paranoia.

Hi. I'm R(db3)'s stepson. My name is C-----.

R(db3) asked me to come here and inform you that he has been in a terrible auto accident. It hapened last night. He has a fractured hip and a broken left leg. The car is totaled.

My mom and I spent the night with him. He's in good spirits and is stable. I don't know how much longer he will be admited.

Ouch

No kidding. I've broken my thumb and fractured my wrist, but nothing like that. I though having to go a month and a half without being able to do sports was bad, but it sounds like he'll be immobile for a while.

My prayers are with RDB3, that he will fully and quickly recover from his injuries.

I just got off the phone with him.

He's back at home, and doing better. He's trying to learn to get around the house in a wheelchair, and return plenty of phone calls from folks.

I suspect we'll hear from him online here within the next day or so.
