Two things occurred to me. First, I checked this thread out just for the pictures...Just kidding. Inappropriate Irish humor.

Seriously, by taxing porn you legitimize it. Because you derive revenue from it you soon have government supporting it. After all, you soon will have legislatures depending on it and adjusting their budgets to use the tax revenue in the upcoming year. Gambling would be a good example. In Kansas our socialist governor has some shady deals going to institute state run gambling. So soon you would have the state benefiting from the predatory nature of gaming. Can you see it? Two large goons from the state department of gaming breaking your legs for not paying your vig.
Back to porn.

If, porn is to be legitimized and taxed, then isn't porn a form of prostitution? Sex for money? So, is it a stretch then for prostitution to become legalized? Soon you have the Germany model where if a young girl is unemployed she has to take whatever job they offer-like sex worker. Can you see the career day at your local high school? Would your state have a program to bring younger girls with bigger hooters to boost business?
While porn is legal now, it is off to the side in our seamier side of society. I see no reason to push it to the forefront. It promotes nothing but misery and the wearing away at our society.

But at what percentage? 100%? 150%? 500%? Or maybe it could be measured in terms of years behind bars?

This has very little to do with taxing porn ( well they do need something to replace
smoking taxes) But setting the precedent of taxing the Internet.

This is just a Trojan Horse ;)

Just think of all of those in the industry who supported jfk LOL this should teach them.

They want control of what is on the internet because it is the only form of media the Democrats don't have complete control over.

Bingo, Sir you just hit the nail on the head....This is just the beginning...they don't care about porn sites, they want to control information...With the mainstream media in their pockets, the only form of information flow they can't control is the internet.

As a citizen of one of the UN’s permanent security council members, Bill Clinton is not eligible to serve as Secretary General of the UN.

Not a problem. Since Clinton was our first "black" president, all he has to do is move to some third-world African country which will grant him citizenship.

A Democratic lawmaker is planning to propose a new 25 percent federal tax on Internet pornography and new requirements for adult Web sites to help prevent children from looking at them.

Since this is being introduced by a democrat, I would guess that this bill is being lobbied by penthouse mag. They are losing money to internet porn.

They don't need to replace tobacco/alcohol taxes.. raising them as high has made them a declining revenue source...

LOWER those taxes to encourage consumption..

when i run next year i will support across the board tax reductions to make KY competitive to neighboring states for purchasing (anyone in TN that is an hours drive from KY that buys in TN is a fool--and the Franklin KY wal mart is usually filled with Robertson, Sumner, and even Davidson County TN plate cars. (they come over to buy lottery tickets even still, because KY has far more selection and better odds).

It isn't even just about taxing itself. It's an open window to all sorts of regulations. We could wind up having that woman telling us who we can and can't let post on FR.

"The Dems say our site is filled with Right Wing FILTH!"

Nah....the dems would classify FR as full of "hate speech".

"In Kansas our socialist governor "

I truly feel sorry for any lawmaker that tries to enact legislation to control the internet. He will be hacked like no tomorrow. These people will learn, don't ever...ever...ever f'ck with the internet!

Look at the guy who ran the spam companies, they found his address and signed him up for junk mail, he'd get hundreds of pounds per mail per day. And that was just for spamming them!

"Yeah, but a Democrat speaking out AGAINST porn? These are the people who agreed with the Supreme Court's rulings concerning Internet porn, child and otherwise!"

They were for porn, before they were against it.

Seriously, the flip-flopping on the pr0n issue indicates pornography isn't the concern of Democrat law makers. Like other have already mentioned, it's all about control of free speech via regulation.

Their tricks haven't changed over the last 70 years, but at least free people can discuss what's really happening these days, and propagate our concerns.

If there's any bulwark against further encroachments on real liberties, it's junk entertainment. Take away the free porn and regulate and watch what you're doing on the internet, and it's bound to cause popular/populist backlash, and that includes some on the left, and that big block of non-voter types.

This is the Dem's "bridge too far."

This idea will really pump up the Russian economy. All of these porn centers will be in Moscow, totally protected, with underage girls, and just about everything else that one can guess. This is about as stupid as congress can get. You might as well add a tax for on-line banking...so we can move our accounts out to the Bahamas or add a on-line tax for news...so we can watch only European reporting.

The Democrats want our government to be in partnership with producers of pornography? Seems a little much for even them.
