Roberts is deliberately without much record. He is deliberately congenial and with friends all around. He is deliberately professionally competent, hard to make controversial – fine. I say "deliberately" on Bush's part – it is unknown if Judge Roberts has achieved his stealth status by his own design or by chance. Seemingly driven, popular success would encourage an individual to remain somewhat vanilla, but great strategists also sometimes hold their tongue and bide their time. We don't know, and that's the point.

It's not- it's the pawn of the governmental power elite. They don't want an "originalist" Supreme Court that will interpret the Constitution. They want a squishy center, that will serve the government's purpose- stealing land in New London as compensation for taking away the submarine base; eviscerating California law under the Commerce Clause so as to keep power in the Federal government.
If we had seven Thomas's and Scalia's, we would go back to the original Amewrica- and government power would be zippo. That's why we get O'Conor's,Kennedys and Roberts.

As for her comments on Roberts, all she said was that we could have had a Scalia and all we got was an unknown. We don’t know what we got with Roberts and it shouldn’t have ended up like that.

I think that you discovered early that there is an attack dog mentality amongst the element that pretends to be conservative, but are nothing more than disruptors.

I am in no way comparing myself to Ann, but on this and another 'conservative' forum, I get savaged for stating facts and opinion. Rarely does anyone ever try to argue the logic and reason that I put forth. They don't even say that I am wrong. They just try to insult me into submission.

The majority around here think she was WAY of base to suggest Roberts was Souter with nothing to back it up. We're entitled to tell her what we think of the opinion and slam the opinion down.

Ann fearlessly endures the attacks of liberals, and she does so in support of the causes that we hold dear. I don’t always agree with her, but God, I admire her courage. I couldn’t do what she does, and I am so much in her debt for doing for me that which I have no capacity to perform.

Tell it like it is, brudda. I also fully support your comments on fellow Freepers who denigrate her appearance or mannerisms, that is so-o-o-o third grade. They are my countrymen but God I wish they wouldn't do that.

1) I don't think most people read Coulter's column accurately. She was saying Roberts is not a bright line conserative and he might turn out bad, like all the other unclear judges have.

B) That the left seems to like Roberts, and think it's a sign of victory of their strategery that W picked such a moderate.

III) I don't know about Roberts. I like what I've seen. I hope W is right. But who knows?

I disagree with you wholeheartedly as to your view that we could not force an originalist onto the Court. HOWEVER, I respect totally the fact that you deal with the substance. I respect totally with the fact that you disagree with Ann as to her point of view. That's the nature of intellectual debate, and civil discourse. Your opinion is well reasoned.
Regrettably, that is not what occurred in the subject thread. And all conservative, judeo-christian gentleman should condemn the personal attacks on this lady.

You all may remember that we were on the fence on what type of judge W might nominate (especially with all the 'consultation'); We hadn't seen height nor hair of backbone (except for the matched amendment 'a la Rove' by Frist on the floor). Deep down we hoped W would do the right thing and held each others hands.

Tell me your first reactions when you heard some dems praising him?...when you heard other dems saying we'll give him a hearing first...even Kos (Not Schumer, doesn't count)?
When you found he worked for a very liberal law firm and survived Harvard intact...twice? (I must admit the 'slight of judge' by W was excellent btw)

He seems to be solid as a rock...for some he may seem to be too good to be true. We have been not so much shell-shocked...but busy. We are not used to anything good coming out the mouth of the left (This attack seems more contrived than usual, if you notice).

Yes, Ann can go there at times... we should be prepared even so. No, we can't tolerate a defection in conservative thought. She has stood by us...and she took some pies for the cause and wrote excellent books with timing that was kind during the election. Don't forget those on the front lines, even if they forget themselves.
We should invite her to post here and break down what her other concerns are...she knows something else to come out like this...trust me. She would have trounced the libs every opportunity on this if she didn't. I'll email her.

I will post as long as Jim allows me to post. I believe that gentleman like Jim and Dubya would support me on not attacking a lady in this fashion. She has always been there for conservatives and Free Republic.
I take it Wildcat, the truth hurts. If you were a conservative gentlemen, you would join me in defense of attacking a lady in this fashion, rather than asking me to take a hike. Yup. I am a fan of both women you mention but in Coulter's case I understand why she turns some people off.

But where is all this wailing about some comments on a thread (which I still haven't seen), when Coulter ROUTINELY calls names?

If there's one person who probably didn't give a damn about the names she was called on a FR thread, it was Coulter. If she doesn't care--and does anyone really think she does?--why should anyone else?
